  1. You know early where this is going, but the trek is worth taking and there are surprises. Nicely written. https://nifty.org/nifty/gay/relationships/the-inheritance-clause/
  2. Fine stories have become rarer at Nifty--there are better sites, such as AD--but I recommend this one highly. It has a wonderful time and place feel with fine characters. https://nifty.org/nifty/gay/beginnings/harvard-comes-to-montana/
  3. Odd. When I posted this, there were two more chapters in the list. Now, they have disappeared.
  4. I see that Driver has now finished his latest story. I've not yet read it, but all of his other ones have been very good to outstanding. Here it is: https://storiesbydriver.net/jitb/jitb01.htm And the starting point is: https://storiesbydriver.net/jitb.htm
  5. Quality stories on Nifty are rarer and rarer, but an exception is https://nifty.org/nifty/gay/adult-friends/my-summer-on-fire-island.html . It is a good well-written story and highly erotic (ending with a predictable, heavy-sex session--something, I suppose, seems to be al Nifty requirement) .

    U-N-I

I liked this story over at GayAuthors despite the author's decision an overly large number of (well-written) sex scenes. The story explores the rock-music stardom scene in interesting detail and with finely drawn characters. [The sex scenes are, of course, skimmable if you're staying with the underlying story.] https://gayauthors.org/story/unilive/u-n-i/
  7. Actually, most of the following books -- 14 to date, I think -- are better. The author hits a nice stride. rec
  8. My folks used to read Ellery Queen and MIckey Spillane's mysteries, originating, I believe, in the 1920s. For WW II and mystery fans, I recommend the Billy Boyle series, which is recent but set in the 1940s and very well done.
  9. Add me to the list of merry messages.
  10. After enjoying Double Concerto, I went back to look at Parker Owens' other stories and found a gem: https://gayauthors.org/story/parker-owens/atoz/ Engrossing. Well constructed. Fine writing.

    Kismet

After five chapters, this NIfty story is showing well. https://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/adult-friends/kismet/kismet-1.html
  12. While Nifty has become a bit of a desert with regard to good stories, this fine one is an exception. https://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/beginnings/one-chance
  13. This is a story that reaches the top of my all-time-best list. There is excellent character development and growth. It is well written, and it is absorbing. I can't recommend it highly enough. https://gayauthors.org/story/parker-owens/double-concerto/
  14. Consider me interested. I do editing/proofing for Cole Parker and edited Nigel Gordon's latest, Living With Johnny. I was concerned that the follow-on to Johnny would start soon, but it won't be ready until late summer.

I have time now, and if you would send me a chapter (preferably in Word format), I will return an edited copy back. We can thus test for compatibility.

My email is vwl1999 at keptprivate.com.

      Dear rec,

Thanks for your offer! I've divided my manuscript into thirteen parts of a few chapters each, the first being the longest at 50k words. I'd rather keep the parts intact as this is how I will end the files to my longtime editor, David of Hope. The files are just a bit longer than can be sent through this forum, however. Would it be okay for me to send the first file to the email address above? Edit as much of it as you want, but the first part is probably the best way to see if we're compatible.

      Thanks,

      Steve (aka Altimexis)

  15. I read Any Day based on a GA recommendation and continued on with Naked Calendar. Both are well done, engaging without an obtrusive sex presence and have likeable characters. https://gayauthors.org/story/lomax61/any-day/ https://gayauthors.org/story/lomax61/naked-calendar/
  16. This short story is worth reading. It is well written, has characters of interest and is nicely plotted. https://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/beginnings/a-chorus-directors-dilemma Send the author a note if you like it.
  17. Another sweet love story from Marin Guistinian http://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/beginnings/light
  18. Miles from Home is a nicely written, well paced story. So far, it is very enjoyable. http://www.niftyarchive.info/nifty/gay/college/miles-from-home/ Let the author know if you like it.
  19. I just tried this. You can copy a chapter [be sure to leave out the comments] and paste it into a Word document and change the font size to whatever. A bit cumbersome, but it works. rec aka vwl
  20. Rarely do I find a story as good as The Acquittal https://gayauthors.org/story/jdonley75/the-acquittal/ It is extremely well constructed with nice plot twists, has vivid characters, has moments of high emotion and is well written (but needing some editing, says I, the editor). It is one story that can pull me away from my latest mystery writer--that being currently Kendra Elliott. If you like the story, please let the author know and tell him or her that the recommendation came from Awesome Dude.
  21. In the course of editing, I had to figure out how much three fingers of Macallan 86 was worth, so I searched for a bottle price on the internet. Three fingers would be worth about $4,000.

    Tuscany

Marin Giustinian has produced a sweet, though oversexed, three-chapter story. http://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/beginnings/tuscany/
  23. I find Marin Giustinian's stories engaging, including this new one: http://www.niftyarchive.info/nifty/gay/beginnings/rainbow-angel/ Let the author know if you like it, as well.
