Pronoun Imprecision

with apologies to Colinian

Ann and Richard were awake earlier than usual.

Ill get ready for work and go in early, they said.

Not, me. Im going to do some reading, they said.

Wasted time, it said.

Look, not everythem is as dedicated as they are, they said.

At least, do the breakfast dishes before they leave, themselves suggested.

Way to spoil a little stolen leisure time, they said.

They with longer hair said, Were not feeling particularly feminine today.

Who cares? they asked.

Which car are they taking?

Theyll take the Prius. They have to drive to Salem.

It guesses, itll take the other one

With everythem in agreement, the morning started.

Er, was that 'you should never paste from MS Word,' or 'ya'll should never paste from MS Word'? I'm confused, Bi; I don't believe Cole pasted anything at all, although at times all of us may have felt the urge to paste him (them, it, heshe, that one).

You know, I kind of like that heshe. Thanks for putting the thought in my head!

C

How about pronouncing it as "hesh" then simplifying the spelling to hesh?

Rhymes with 'jesh!' as in "Jesh! Puleeze stop saying 'hesh.' I'm afraid most folks would make a hash of it.

Reminds me of the flap over 'Ms.' that so irritated the etiquette doyennes.

And probably the English teachers, too.
