Empathy: Doing it Right

Recommended Posts

Beautiful and moving. Maybe there's hope for this generation of kids.

Of course there is! There's so many good news stories about kids out there, but the media rarely reports them because they're "not news".

Kids today are, in my opinion, the same as kids when I was growing up (back in the dark ages). There are good kids and there are bad kids. Kids that get others to follow them by intimidation and kids that inspire others to do what they do. I've got two sons. One son's in a year group at school where the other kids are not the best. The other son is in a year group that is almost as supportive as the older kids in the video. Both are at the same school.

There are examples like what was in that video in all generations. My favourite is a story from South Africa about a young boy who returned to school after chemotherapy. He walked into class with a cap on his head because he was bald from the treatment. He found all his friends in the classroom wearing hats, too. They then started to take them off -- all of the had shaved their heads bald to show their classmate he wasn't alone.

That was in 2001.

Empathy and compassion are wide spread. It's just not well reported.
