  1. "If the Moon didn't spin at all, then eventually it would show its far side to the Earth while moving around our planet in orbit. However, since the rotational period is exactly the same as the orbital period, the same portion of the Moon's sphere is always facing the Earth." This is what Google says. I suppose the little rover they show in the article could broadcast images and data back up to the delivery vehicle rotating around the moon and thus send it back to Earth...but the article doesn't say that. If we wrote stories as incomplete and lacking in information as this article then no one would want to read our work. Media sucks;.
  2. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/china-shoots-for-first-landing-on-dark-side-of-the-moon/ar-BBoeDX0?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=LENDHP Finally someone will explore the dark side of the moon and...wait a minute...this isn't going to work is it? Explore, sample, and perhaps photograph up close someplace we have never seen, but how are we going to know? Not sure they can broadcast a signal back to Earth from the far side of the moon. Might work if they have a satellite in orbit but it doesn't say that. Anyone have ideas?
  3. I have discovered the source of the ignorant masses supporting Donald Trump...they live here in Florida. Only a fool would vote for The Donald and probably just as many fools would decide the following is a good idea: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/news/lottery-officials-beware-of-online-powerball-share/np3ym/ I mean really, if you don't understand this to be a total scam then you deserve to vote for Trump.
  4. The southern US is overrun with Hispanic workers and there are probably dozens of corner bodegas carrying jalapeno peppers. Good way to clear out the sinuses if you have a cold.
  5. Oh Yes...and about time for the Christian Right to wake up and discover that gay issues are not the only things they can troll for contributions to the cause. Trump and his ideals are rotten to the core, and about as immoral as they come. Bring on Bryan Fisher: http://www.joemygod.com/2016/01/11/american-family-association-attacks-trump-on-adultery-and-melanias-lesbian-themed-porn/ Check out the comments section and be warned, one of the readers has posted a nude photo of Donald's latest wife (probably from his adultery days). Can you see this classy woman as First Lady....NOT!
  6. David Bowie, another musical icon passes on. Although not a big fan when he became famous in the 1970's, like everyone else I realized his music signaled a change. I suppose everyone was trying to get involved in disco (ugh) at the time and yet it seems Bowie was always on the fringe. He may not have been the most popular singer of our times but his music was always there.
  7. Ah yes, the Trump-meister, ego maniac, narcissistic, spoiled little rich boy...these are all titles he has worn since high school. This article just confirms what we already know about this fool: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/50-years-later-disagreements-over-young-trump%e2%80%99s-military-academy-record/ar-CCkDzA?li=BBnbcA1&ocid=LENDHP
  8. Your daily dose of Trump: he now admires Kim Jong Un of North Korea for "taking out his rivals." I imagine Trump would like to do that on his way to the White House but it ain't gonna happen. Admiring someone for murdering people in order to take control of a country is obscene...that's our Donald: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-kim-jong-un-deserves-%e2%80%98credit%e2%80%99-for-taking-out-rivals/ar-CCkyqt?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=LENDHP
  9. Is this the kind of man we want representing the people in our government? The biased, racially tinged candidate is the worst example of America that I have ever seen...this just proves that he and his followers are beyond the pale: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/muslim-woman-gets-kicked-out-of-trump-rally-%e2%80%94-for-protesting-silently/ar-CCkgwd?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=LENDHP
  10. I'm afraid it is more than an issue with the school system...it is the result of bad parenting. Those mothers and fathers who use the school to discipline their kids are wrong. Kids who bully others in school are guilty of being criminals because there is no greater crime that not allowing a child to get a proper education.
  11. Back in the day...well, who am I kidding? Something like this would have sent parents scrambling for the phone number of a psychiatrist, sent teachers running to the principal's office for advice...and all because Jaden Smith walked in the room: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3384070/Jaden-Smith-17-revealed-new-face-Louis-Vuitton-WOMENSWEAR-dons-skirt-pose-three-female-models-luxury-brand-s-spring-campaign.html Of course the young man stands to make millions and perhaps that is why he looks so comfortable. Boy in a dress...that seems to be acceptable these days. He does have the body for it and definitely the mindset...I wonder what his security people think? Well, damn, it's not me and Jaden would never have survived the schoolyard in my day, but more power to him for the courage it takes to do something like this. He needs a new gig since his film career tanked.
  12. The Disgusting Donald is at it again: https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/trump-to-breastfeeding-mom-youre-disgusting-125350815777.html The man is a total sexist bastard who would rather date his daughter than screw his regular cadre of super models. That is disgusting. He also blames Clinton and the President for creating ISIS and says Clinton is responsible for thousands of deaths in the Middle East. I guess he is afraid of placing the blame at GW Bush's feet where it all began. Next he will be calling the Queen an old disgusting lady, he has no shame.
  13. So here I go to the short story list and I find this from Colin...a teaser no doubt for an upcoming story. I'm waiting!!! http://www.codeysworld.com/colinian/one-complicated-new-year/one-complicated-new-year.php Well hell, if major film studios can do it why not a teaser for a story from Colin.
  14. I have never sat myself down to watch a full episode of The Fosters...not a big fan of television in general...so this is nothing against the show. I became aware of the Jude and Connor storyline here on AD, thanks to The Dude. I have watched scenes from the show here and on YouTube, it was inspiring. Now I am aware of what happened at the end of Season 3 and realize that the show is not just about two boys in love but the lives of the other characters don't interest me. I know this is a spoiler, but without the relationship of Jude and Connor I wonder where the writers are going to take this show? As an author I am curious about the intentions behind splitting this duo. From what I have read about the change from ABC Family to Freeform in an attempt to capture the younger audience I wonder at killing the romance of television's greatest gay romance...what are they thinking? Whatever it is it better be damned good!!
  15. This is not my life...growing up was never like this...I only wish. I am still stunned that a show like this exists to give the younger generation of LGBT youth hope. This is what the collective group of AD authors has been trying to do for years and there is no way for us to determine if our words are reaching the right audience. Thanks, Dude...for everything.
  16. It's always there on the MSN home page: we recommend you load Windows 10, and then states it is free. I come from that "nothing good is free" school of thought...does anyone have any idea what MSN is going to do to me if I don't load this new system? I have never needed all the bells and whistles that come with an operating system. I use the Windows 8 program that came with this computer. I word process and view selected sites on the internet, all else is useless to me. They kept trying to get me to load Windows 8.1 in 2015 and out of curiosity I tried to do that once but my strict firewall service would not allow it to load. I know, I could have suspended the protection for the transfer but I did not. I didn't need 8.1 and I probably don't need Windows 10 either. I have read nothing but bad things about this new operating system...am I wrong in thinking this?
  17. A very clever story...and anything I say after that will be a spoiler. Graeme plays with our preconceived notions of marriage, children and family relationships, and if you follow that line of thinking you would be wrong. Love the twist at the end. Well done.
  18. An opinion: It can't be just religion that fuels the flames in the Middle East, there are such distinct cultural differences. The figurehead of God seems to be about the same for all those religions. The God of Abraham is Old Testament, the God of Jesus was also Abraham's God (Matthew, New Testament), and even the latecomer Mohammad mentions that the God of Islam (Allah means 'the God') was Abraham's God. Seems like God is not doing his job. Pre-Islam, the Arab world was a mixed bag of religious belief although Zoroaster seemed primary thanks to the Iranians. The prophet cult was strong when Mohammed came along and from early teachings in the Quran it seems that prophets of all religions were to be respected, and Jesus was seen as one of them. So what happened? Why has Islam changed in attitude towards other religions? The teachings in the Quran are subject to the whims of the Islamic religious leaders...that should sound familiar to Christians. The other thing is that in order to be a good Muslim the faithful need to learn their lessons from the Quran in Arabic. Used to be that the Bible was only written in Latin, a language only the scholars of the Catholic Church understood. So here we have centuries of civilization where the two major holy books can only be understood by the priests/Imams of the religion. How convenient for them. Palestine, and thus Jerusalem, has become a religious focal point for all of the main contenders, although the Christians seem content just to visit these days. But even the Arabs living there are not a majority Palestinian, they are refugees from other nations who have been there for decades. I would agree that a lot of the animosity is based upon jealousy towards the Jewish State and the progress they have made since the founding of Israel. I am reminded of comments made by a Swiss doctor working for Doctors Without Borders which appeared in the news some years ago. The constant warfare between Israeli forces and the terrorist factions in Gaza had destroyed much of the infrastructure...houses, utility services and hospitals. The doctor said that several international NGO's had sent building materials into Gaza to rebuild a hospital and the military factions had seized the material to build bunkers. This is the kind of mentality any outside mediators face in trying to create a compromise. No doubt the irrational in Gaza will continue to lob rockets into Israel and get bombs in return...this has been going on for years. Civilian deaths are blamed on Israel, and not because the poor residents are the target but because the terrorists hide behind them. It is unfortunate that the God of Abraham promised Moses that there would be no repeat of the flood that destroyed the world because the Middle East could use a good cleansing. Unfortunately for the Arab population the Israelis seem to have all the boats.
  19. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-nobodys-proven-putin-killed-journalists/ar-BBnLbdy?li=BBnbcA1&ocid=LENDHP Vlad Putin strokes Trump's ego and the bromance begins. If the voters put this fool in the White House Putin will be laughing his ass off while he invades the rest of Europe. As for Putin being a killer, of course he is, he's former KGB.
  20. What a sweet little bit of misdirection by Nigel...I had no idea where this story was going. I spent considerable time trying to place the storyline in context with something I might know and discovered...well, nothing. It wasn't necessary for the impact Nigel intended, this could take place anywhere they might celebrate Christmas. Well done.
  21. I was just discussing this story with Addym last evening. It has always been a fascination to me just where an author gets the inspiration for the plot, and here we have James giving us a hint with his history lesson. The issue of slavery is as old as humanity. I think every society has seen it in one form or another, especially when they view one race as superior to another. The unique way James introduces the subject in his story gives us to understand that there will always be those who see the economic gain in captive labor, and in this case making alterations to fit the need. This part of the story begs for more illumination although I have the feeling James has said his piece and left the building with Elvis.
  22. This is a short story? What James has given us is a fine piece of writing worthy to be the opening of a 400 page book, or barring that, a trilogy or longer. In the tradition of Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, and even modern day Jack Campbell, James has written a science fiction story that appeals on so many levels, even to a non sci-fi reader like me. As a concept the plot is timeless, mankind can be so inhumane if no one is looking. The conclusion James draws is what you might expect, and yet there is so much more to be told. What he has set up in this short story is what leaves us begging for more. Good job, James. Here is where you will find it: http://www.awesomedude.com/jamessavik/the-nordia-incident/the-nordia-incident.htm
  23. Cole is right, and not just about the weather. Television programs are vapid pieces of garbage in this day and age of reality programming. You want news, weather, go to the internet. That way you won't have to watch CNN and Faux News use Sarah Palin to deliver moments of incredible stupidity they call the news. Need entertainment...go read a book.
  24. A thoroughly commendable story everyone should read...all it lacks is a soundtrack...and, of course, I have a suggestion: https://youtu.be/Ol8HTS-5wWc
