  1. Sir. You will be missed; you will be remembered fondly! Love, Joe
  2. Prunus ilicfolia ssp. lyonil is a native Californian, very happy in the vicinity of the Channel Islands. Whence comes the popular name, "Catalina Cherry". Not particularly awe inspiring in and of itself, but the birds love its fruit, and it's thick vegetation can be a mini-jungle in which boys might pretend to be heathens, naked in the jungle. A worthy tree in all respects. Some of the adventures of the heathens, in and around these trees, as well as other places to be sure, will be coming soon. I hope you might enjoy them.

Thanks for the help. It was clearly a hobgoblin in the works. It worked fine this morning.

Is anyone else having trouble with this? I've been trying for three days to make a donation and I can't move the cursor on the page. It's worked in the past.

    I'm Alive!

What wonderful news. I'm pleased as punch and Artemis and Mimieux are catstatic too. Please take it easy, don't push yourself. I've done that in the past and it never works well. Hip Hip Hooray. Best, Joe
  8. John, Thanks for the info. Mike is a great guy and we wish him good things quickly. Joe
  9. Charlie finds many things in the Co-Cathedral of Saint John in Valetta, Malta. One of them he didn't think even existed.
  10. Looking forward to the new novel. Great news.
  11. Can "Those far distant storm beaten ships upon which the Grand Army never looked..." save Charlie from the tumult of romance?
  12. A short adventure in an ancient city coming next Saturday. I hope you enjoy it.
  13. A familiar, capable of time travel, on a mission to rescue a Stradivarius violin from the looting of a Venetian palace, inadvertently rescues the musician assigned to that violin who was, himself, attempting to rescue both himself and the violin from the looters. And so, Giacomo de Castellammare comes to Ellendale and the Elven Dominion Beyond the Stars. Who knows what wondrous adventures await him? Other than the Shadow, of course.
  14. This story appears in the September 14, 2020, edition of The New Yorker. It is beautifully written and a moving exploration of two complete opposites.

    Barnaby?

Thanks, that didn't work. I don't know how to describe it, but it's very small and has symbols like <p> which I think might mean paragraph plus a lot of other stuff that is not part of the story.

    Barnaby?

Am I the only one whose having trouble seeing this. Every other story I've looked at recently has come through beautifully as they normally do; but this short story is not formatted correctly. Cheers,

    Dynasty

It only took me seconds to be hooked. A cliff hanging rescue by a handsome prince in a "zimmer". A new identity, a room in the palace. A whole new future. I'm enthralled.
  19. I found this story to be deeply moving. It's based on the experiences of one of Alan's readers. Well worth a read.
  20. Feeling down? Weather grey? Cranky? Improve your mood with a quick read. Pedro's 'Telepathy' , or 'Joseph's Cat' are sure to bring a smile and brighten your day.
  21. But I wanted to know as I was reading Chapter 1.
  22. I've never lost a cuff link and I used to wear them almost daily. I quite agree with you on the subject of history. There are far too few good ones out there. I didn't get a great one until university. My recurring history teacher in HS (small town) believed that the way to teach history was for her to read to us from the book; or for us to read the book ourselves, quietly in class. I once asked her who Admiral Darlan was. She looked at me blankly.
  23. And what's wrong with cuff links anyway?
