  1. I'm forever frustrated by such "urgent" postings as this. Just for the record, has anybody looked into the viability of "Mr. Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia"??? A valid claimant would more likely include department, badge number, contact information, etc. You know - the kind of stuff REAL cops do. Seems that long before US Lawmakers spend much of their time taking note of this they should know whether the person is real, accurate, sane, etc. Then they could perhaps give a look at his purported facts and see whether they have any association whatsoever with conditions in the US.
  2. Have you contacted Amazon directly? I've actually found them fairly helpful in the past. Book prices these days (especially e-Books) are set by the publisher rather than Amazon in most cases. Sort of a screwed up process still being finagled. Could just need a kind ( or WTF?!) nudge from you, especially for a popular book.
  3. Perhaps intended more commonly for people who need to be medicated before they'll take a ride on The Tube.
  4. All you youngsters...<sigh>. In my day we just used sharp rocks to scratch the words into the cliff side. Danged kids had these new Apple mudPads. Sure, easier to write and great to erase. But personally I don't think they'll last.
  5. Love the story - or at least I would if I wasn't worried some clown is out there with his woofers right at this moment! One tiny point that has nothing to do with frequencies. You wrote: "Sure Cal, come on in. I'm a little busy trying to figure out why an earthquake fault that hasn't moved in 250,000 years just decided to go rouge and pop the valley with a 4.2." Not sure about the rest of you, but I've never seen an earthquake fault wearing red makeup in my life! :) Chris
  6. A bit ??!! Good grief. The gynecological problems alone are monumental. So do let us know how the experiments go.
  7. Almost 50 years ago, the men of the Stonewall riots took up the mantle of civil disobedience to change something they felt was unjust. Many of them paid a fearsome price, but in the long run we all share in the rewards that are (gradually) coming forth from their sacrifice. Seems that people who have benefited from things like that should be the first to understand -- and yes, vehemently disagree with -- this woman. But it can be done without the vitriol and malice expressed so far. She will pay the price for her actions, as is right and proper. In the video she even acknowledges that she recognizes this fact and it is worth it to her. Fine. So let the law take its course. And keep in mind that it is adherents to the laws of ancient middle east goat herders who have changed these laws. Modernized, if you will. Nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with a man who disagrees with those changes for whatever reasons to console a person who shares his views in a private meeting. It is, pardon the expression, their right.
  8. One of the best stories I've read in a long time. (Though unlike Chris I won't say it smelled like horse dropings! ;) ) Thanks for the work, Ren. Look forward to many more.
  9. What a wonderful, thought-provoking tale! It's always fun when an author writes a neat little story with a question of whether the ending will be A or B or C. It's even more fun when the actual answer is Three Pancakes! Thank you.
  10. Rats. I read his Perelandra trilogy in high school and loved it, but nothing more. Might ought to go back and do some.
  11. Keeping in mind the adage, "After the first death, there is no other," I have a slightly different view of the Hiroshia/Nagasaki bombings. I'm a descendant of a guy who was an F4-U Corsair pilot. His ship, USS Guadalcanal, was crusing towards Japan to participate in the invasion. As he explained it to us, when the Japanese heard he was coming, they surrendered. Perhaps a slight exaggeration, but there's a great likelihood he would not have survived the attack, so to me it's all very personal. I'm sorry for those who died. I'm thankful for one in particular who did not.
  12. I don't know if they can 'recall' a pope. Probably figure the church is 2000 years old, they've outlived all the other popes, they'll outlive this one.
  13. Hey there DesDownUnder - I suspect Damien would feel insulted! ;)
  14. So... just curious... it's this easy? The outing, not the writing! The writing is the tough part, and well done here. Wonderful positive story. Thanks.
  15. Messr. Parker is evidently 100 years old. He remembers the days when serials showed every Saturday at the movies for a nickel and kids would walk through burning razor blades to make sure they got there! (Supposedly included the popcorn.) Wouldn't be any problem at all if he weren't such a doggone good writer. Curse you Ren Baron!
