  1. Wow... somebody agrees with me. Jerry is my favorite character in Leaves & Lunatics! I hope we get another Chapter before the current one drops off the bottom of the front page... 30 days are fast approaching! How's that for pressure, EC?
  2. That sums it up in a few words, Codey... but true. I happen to know that this story isn't just plucked out of thin air... or water. Look up some of the background on the Coast Guard cutter, USCGC Walnut... Pearl Harbor and some of the reputed denizens of that place and you'll find there is a lot more to this story than you might think. It is a real gem.
  3. I guess I am responsible for few people noticing the story as I put it in the TOP CENTER of the AwesomeDude home page. :p
  4. See what happens when you are promoted from New Writers Series to Story Editor... Everybody expects the best from Tragic Rabbit ... a kind of given. Unfortunately, unlike Stephen King... TR does not push his wheelbarrow to the bank each Friday. At least not with earnings from AwesomeDude. I notice that we also have a couple of other gems on our home page... David MacMillan's Flight At Peenemunde and Rick's The Castaways. Both have also gone without comment in the AwesomeDude Forums. I made the case for David -who is an accomplished author in the genere- joining AwesomeDude.com not for the quantity of readers but fo their quality and for their willingness to give helpful and constructive feedback. Same is true for Rick's neat little Robinson Crusoe saga. Rick joined up for the full benefits of the New Writers Series which means his own story thread and all the comments he could endure... Now that we're mentioning it... Sequoyah has just wrapped up his second major novel, Mountain Magic and I know he has hundreds of readers but still no comment. Weird... I know that we had 12,961 UNIQUE visitors in April with 641,548 total hits. I know also that only a fraction of those visitors actually bother to register and even fewer to post. Go figure...
  5. I learned the same thing... there is a Gordon, Ohio... but barely a wide place in the road. As it had NO city park, I borrowed the pic on the L & L title page from another Ohio town. :-D
  6. Damn... my gramps retired in a little single-wide with an attached "Florida room." I've always aspired to that, myself... someday.
  7. er... Graeme you do that SO well... think you could go to Tragic Rabbit's Drama Club thread and do the same thing? :p
  8. Thanks for your posting, Ross. I'm gonna move it over to the Readers Rule Forum where EleCivil is sure to see it.

    The Next Step

Definitely go for it DJ. Too much of who we are is bottled up inside and not expressed... and if you learn to let it out at a early age, the better you will be able to relate to the rest of your life. Good job!

    For Dude

Thanks for your kind words, Rad. And I am so happy to hear from you again... post-tsunami. It is good to know that you are alright. As Codey pointed out... you can read Perry and Jesse by connecting to it's link on the Best of Nifty page available here. Thanks again and I hope you'll stay with us for a long time.
  11. Just for the record. I have deleted the topic which escalated into an unfortunate exchange. I took a page from Codey's poem about the angry words remaining after the anger is long gone. There was no censorship here as the thread persisted for several days... and you have all had a chance to read it... just a bit of spring housecleaning. And the notice on the front page will suffice to explain why we no longer carry Dave's stories. Wish it were otherwise... but
  12. When I read Sworn To Love Harry the first time through, an old tune I have loved since childhood began to play in my mind... without apparent reason. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

    Do I Dare?

Codey has just put his finger on the pulse of the 'net. He has been mostly quiet since coming back from the hospital this time, but he has been watching and reading... In the meantime, those of us embroiled in the heat and emotions of what has played out here recently feel tired and spent but are probably no wiser. Sometimes, I think I'd like to go back to just watching and reading... Thanks again, Codey, for your thought provoking words. Maybe we will get it sometime soon.
  14. This is disappointing :( I am not sure what I can do other than go back to a plain solid color front page. I was just trying out using my home studio/office as a visual background and really didn't intend for it to be permanent. But if what you are experiencing is widespread, I would have to give up using visuals on the site. The site is definitely aimed at the standard 1024x768 resolution level. But I have no trouble viewing it here in 800x600 and just scrolling it a bit from side to side and top to bottom. And the text only pages (stories) display the same on 1024x768 or 800x600 browsers. After ballyhooing the Firefox browser, I have since dumped it. Although it has enhanced security, compared to Internet Explorer, it just isn't up to snuff in displaying visuals and has the most obnoxious habit of underlining hyperlinks that I have gone to pains to remove and which Internet Explorer understands. :(

    Joke

heh heh heh.... I seem to have my feet on backwards then... :D
  16. Thanks AJ will try to check it out soon. We have two new folks in line to get into the New Writers Series program so online time is at a premium for me at least. Of course, you are free to include a link with your suggestions... (hint... hint) :)
  17. In as much as it applies to stories and writers on this site, I think it does. It was all generated by the posting of The Eggman's farewell and explanation for his withdrawing from DeweyWriter, AwesomeDude, TheGlassOnion and the web in general. Where would you put it, under the Poets' Corner for "poetic justice?" :p
  18. Heh heh... I have been meaning to have y'all over for barbecue and to look around AwesomeDude.com... but considering the distances involved thought I'd show you my home office/studio where I do most of my work and also do the AD website. My cats all took one look at me snapping flash pictures and headed elswhere but they are usually lounging all around the place as I work... making editorial comments about your stories...
  19. Totally understood and appreciated. Wish I could take off a couple of weeks, myself. All the best,

    untitled poem

Excellent, Codey. Prodigy? Yeah... I wasn't kidding. But remember that prodigies are people too. And that's what I like most about Codey. He is a talented poet and one hell of a smart kid, but it is the human side of him that gives him the most value in my book. He'd be OK with me even if he weren't so talented. :)
  21. Aw wibby.. you know we mostly post with a black background... except for Tragic Rabbit... and his visually artistic  poems. But here you go.. I've reposted in the original colors you sent. And just so everybody knows... it was Write By Myself who talked me out of starting the site on April 1st, 2004. Something about it being an inauspicious date or something. 8) And also -for the record- Dog is great... even Roger my cat agrees!
