  1. Donna Strallen, the crooked Child Protective Services case worker, was fired. She would likely have criminal charges filed and she be fined and/or go to prison. The illegal group home run by Mable and George Wilcox was shut down and their fostering license was permanently canceled. They are being sued by CPS to recover the stipend paid per child. Since they only fostered teen-age boys, the amount is $820 per month times the nine boys they were fostering. Assuming that they were there for twelve months, that would be 9 * 12 * $840 = $90,720 dollars they will have to repay, in full, to CPS. They could have criminal charges filed and be fined (beyond the amount they have to repay) and/or go to prison. Apologies are worth less than the cost of the paper they are printed on. Colin

  4. Ivor, what a horrible, wonderful pun! But I think it might be more suitable for Jeff. (Think about your words!) Colin
  5. Mom does the laundry except for Jeff's underwear and sheets which he does himself. Problem solved! Colin
  6. We think about authors on sites like AwesomeDude and Codey's World and Gay Authors and IOMFATS as being forever. It takes something as sad as the passing of Chris James to remind us that life is fleeting. I hope that his stories will remain available for readers long into the future. Colin 😪
  7. Trab, that's a good general approach to bullying if a school doesn't have a program to stop it immediately. Bullies HATE to be bullied, especially if someone kicks their ass and doesn't seem to care if they're caught doing it... and they're smart enough to not actually get caught. Colin
  8. I agree. And I thought this episode was funny and way ahead of its time. Colin

  10. I haven't seen a forum topic for this fun and well-written story. It's complete; 9 chapters and a prologue. By the end of the story I was rooting for both of the protagonists; they are university students. I think you'll enjoy it, too. If you're confused by the title, it is explained right up front. Colin

  16. We have apple cider (non-alcoholic) in our supermarkets in the USA, too. It doesn't look like apple juice; the color is darker and you can see it has fiber so it has to be shaken before pouring. We don't buy either kind. Colin
  17. Other reasons apple juice is popular is that it's cheap, it's a way of letting kids (and adults) consume sugar without realizing that's what they are drinking. Of course, it varies a little by brand, but a good general measure (courtesy of Google) is there are 24 grams of sugar in one cup of apple juice. 4 grams of sugar = 1 teaspoon. So 24 grams of sugar is 6 teaspoons of sugar. That's what's in one cup of apple juice. There's 1/2 of a gram of dietary fiber in a cup of apple juice. There's 2/10 of a gram of protein in a cup of apple juice. 88% of a cup of apple juice (actually 88% of any amount of apple juice) is water. A cup of apple juice has 115 calories. One cup of apple juice has 96mg of Vitamin C, 160% of the daily recommended amount. Some brands of apple juice also have preservatives to keep it fresh for a long time. Think about that. 19. It's all marketing hype, on both sides of the pond. Colin
  20. Pedro, that sounds like it (to me, at least). It has all of the elements of the story that David mentioned. Thank you! Now I'll have to read this story, too. Colin
  21. A reader wrote asking if I knew of a story about a gay boy and his seven-year-old brother; his father is in jail. The word rainbow is central to the story. I know this isn't much to go on; the reader isn't a native English speaker. Colin
  22. All I can suggest is, "Read on!" Colin

This story revolves around a nineteen year old intelligent young scientist, Kiwakaazi, in ancient Africa. He was accused and found guilty of an incident that claimed many lives in the then Nibooman (Land of Inventions or Western Empire) of Africa. As punishment, he was banished to find a special plant that bears a special flower in Nomposuro (dark and evil forest). There was only one slight problem. The kranjus (immortal guardians) stand in his way. How is thin, weak and naive Kiwakaazi going to survive in Nomposuro? The epic and yet very spiritual journey of Kiwakaazi and other related stories has been captured in this story. Hope you enjoy it! 24. Hi, R... That story about Gabriel shows that so much of CPS and the foster system in California are totally f...ed up. The problem is case worker overload and managerial and supervisory incompetence. I'm going to send the link to this article to Governor Gavin Newsom. Maybe he'll do something about getting things funded and organized. Right now it's all talk and no action. I get the e-edition of Atlantic, so I'd read it before. But it's good to have a reminder. I don't know if writing to the governor and our state senator and representative for our area, but if I don't do it then it's even less likely that we'll see some improvement. BTW, my recent novella Helping a Friend shows a different approach to helping a teen who's mother is... well, read the story because it'll take me too long to summarize in this post. (It always pays to advertise!) Colin
