  1. I fear we will be having four more years of Trump. There is no one at this moment who can successfully run against him. Unless he does something monumentally damaging, or completely slips into dementia where they can't hide it from us, he will win. It is very difficult to beat a sitting president and Democrats have never been united as Republicans.

I do think Gavin Newson will run in the elections after the next one, after he completes 4 years as California governor. That is something I am fearful for, I am living in the mess that is San Francisco he left as Mayor.

Perhaps we need to get the terminology clear: cannabis whose active ingredient is THC does not cause any physical addiction, unlike some other drugs, including tobacco. It is possible to become psychologically dependent, a condition labelled cannabis use disorder, but such dependency is purely a mental state and applies to a minority of users. So as @Jason Rimbaud mentioned his boyfriend being continuously stoned for three years, from morning to night, was/is not an addiction. If he chose to stop, there would be no physical withdrawal symptoms.

The one important fact to consider is the strength of the cannabis (amount of THC). If you draw an analogy with alcohol, the percentage proof of an acholic drink is an indicator of how little you need to consume and how quickly you become intoxicated. There the similarity ends, a potent amount of cannabis may well induce mind-altering properties, the downside of which is paranoia. Making it legal can only be good, because the user should then know it's pure and what strength, potentially avoiding bad side effects, and as a bonus, no more criminal activity.

@William King Thanks to you I just spent the last four hours doing research on this topic. 🙂 Its nice to be unemployed.

I hadn't really dived deep on this topic as I never cared either way. But you got me wondering that perhaps my thinking had been skewed so I found a ton of information that seems to disagree with your above claim.

I don't have any personal experience with cannabis, but there seems to be a consensus that cannabis does have numerous negative affects on your body/brain. Very interesting either way. Thanks for bringing this up, I learned a lot about this subject.

  3. I only wanted it to be legal on the condition that every recreational user has to admit they are addicted to it and it does cause long term harm to your brain and lungs. But that didn't happen 😞

That being said, I do think its a step forward as its a pretty harmless addiction and no reason for smokers to be locked up in jail for smoking a bit of weed on Friday night. Plus one of my boyfriends was stoned the entire three years we were dating. But he wasn't addicted to it, he just wanted to smoke the moment he woke up, no addiction. 🙂

I haven't read this story yet, but I am guided on what to read by the posted comments: so, I won't be put off by the title (although I was, before @Ivor Slipper commented); I agree with @Merkin that Geron is a force to be reckoned with (so, another great tale from him); but @Jason Rimbaud I don't know what to make of a half comment, you'd recommend it, but a couple of things bothered you? (What, would it be a spoiler to mention them? Is that why you didn't?). Generally, I do find peoples comments and recommendations very useful in choosing what to read.

If I got into the reasons why, it would definitely spoil the story. For me, the good parts of the story are the writing, the characters, the reason there are zombies, the discussion of right and wrong. The very few things that bothered me would definitely spoil the story. It's only 13 chapters, about ten pages each chapter, I would say read the first chapter for sure. So if you do read it, it won't take you long to finish it. I will bet it will grip you, its a great piece of writing. If after you decide to read it, and you want to know what I didn't like about it, I will happily discuss it. But again, I gave it 4.6 stars out of 5 so I do think its a good read.

  5. This story is sweet and wistful at the same time for me.  Much like the time I was in SFO airport a few years ago, and two 14 to 16 year old boys were walking around holding hands without a care in the world.  ZBoth of these instances bring a sadness to mind, when I was that age I didnt have the opportunity to be so carefree about my sexulaity in public.  Most of my experiences were always in the shadows.  Beautifully written tale about youth, acceptance.  Acceptance of sexuality and that horrible acceptance that we are no longer the young that we still think in our minds.  Very moving

  6. I too have fond memories of commuting in the Bay Area before I broke down and bought an automobile a few years ago.  In my phone, in the notes section, I have a long rambling story written out in disjointed scenes that were written on the hour train work to and from work based on the riders of B.A.R.T.  I've often thought about putting them together and writing it out completely but it seems disrespectful to change what I wrote on those lonely rides.

But this is about the above piece, and wow, I loved the darkness around the edges and the descriptive nature of the scene.  Very well done flash.  Me likes it muchly.
