This is the only other story in the Halloween group that I've had a chance to read.

I confess to being confused by the beginning.

I can imagine that a lot of kids growing up (including me) would have welcomed the kind of "aha!" moment that Dirk experienced.

I quite liked the beginning, though I thought that the story would end up being his exploration of all of the options, not just one. However, I'm satisfied with the way it turned out though I'll admit that I thought Ted would turn out to be a Halloween ghost...

I pretty much figure it out early that he was at an early crossroads of his life to choose from.

Like Graeme, I too thought Ted was a ghost.

I never considered Ted as a ghost because I was thinking all along of him as having boyfriend potential, which rather negates the ghost supposition unless the story was to be much creepier than I was intending. That would be an entirely different kind of story. A good one, indeed, but different.

For whatever reason, I didn't think Ted was anything but a live kid. I was wondering though: would Ted's brother's ghost show up and fight off the bullies? I suppose in a way it happened, but through what his brother taught him about defending himself before he went into the Marines.
