This Is Who We Are

We are your brothers, your sons,

your cousins, your uncles,

and, occasionally, your fathers.

We share your dreams;

we breathe the same air;

we are so very much alike.

The only difference

that makes a difference,

is who we love.

This is who we are.

This is what we do.

We live among you,

and we mean you no harm.

We simply ask that you

do the same for us.

A rare post by me in the poetry forums just to say I really liked this one. The last two verses (although overly optimistic) are very powerful.
