My Little Rant

After a chat with a friend of mine earlier today about stories, I decided to post this as a Reader.

The chat centered around twists and turns that the author puts in the story. A lot of readers don't like them, especially if it should result in the death of a character. At the risk of stirring things up here, I'm gonna use TSOI as an example. So far we've seen the four who took Jamie to General Zakaria, beheaded, presumably by the Holy Office. We've seen the death of Damien, accidental when the tower collapsed, the attack on the ceremony, and now Luc. And I'm sure I'll be corrected here, but I got the impression, that one just doesn't leave the service of an Abbey or the Holy Office.

Granted, I didn't like the idea of this little boy being killed and in such a brutal fashion. But stop and think about what happened during some of the wars around the world. Brutal things have happened. I also figured that there was a reason behind it and that we would find out. I emailed my thoughts about it to Jamie and we will find out by the end of this book.

Something I think everyone tends to forget, and this was pointed out to me, this story does not take place on earth. Everyone assumes it does.

I've also had the priveledge of editting TPW for Dewey. I didn't like the turn that he put into this story after doing a particular chapter and told him as much. As I continued editting the next couple of chapters, I began to see where he was going and changed my mind. And yes, I told him about it.

If you don't like the way a story turns, you don't have to read it. I host a story at my site titled, Starting Over. It can also be found at Nifty. I started hosting it due to the subject the author was dealing with, Teen Suicide. I started hosting Starting Over 2 until the story took a turn. The author started including sex. Sex between teenage boys, not so bad you say? It got to the point he started including boys under the age of 10 together and with teens. I wasn't fond of this, so I stopped hosting the second part.

I'm also reminded of something Theeggman wrote concerning his stories. He writes them for himself, not the reader. I'm sure there are others out there who do the same thing and share their writing with us.

I consider it an honor and a priveledge to be able to read the work an author puts out.

I'd also like to take the time to say Thank You to the authors who take the time to to reply when I write you about your story. Not everyone does. Now before you say it, I know, I know, you're busy. But is nice to be acknowledged at least once.

Collision is set up so that all authors and editors receive any fan mail from readers. I will respond to the reader as Project Editor even if the author replies back to them.
