RocketDock

Recommended Posts

All you Mac people are use to having that thingy along the bottom of your desktop that has icons on it that grow in size as the mouse passes over it and each one links to a program.

Well now, Windows users can have one too,

It is freeware and is called Rocket Dock 1.3.0 (Final). It is available from:

There are extra skins and icons available for the Dock. Very cutomisable. Also some additional menus and things. It is very configurable with extra right mouse button click menus. You can even insert separators between icons to distinguish groups. Doesn't seem to use much in the way of resources either.

I particularly like being able to minimise open windows to the dock. Cool! Check out the extra downloads for it.

Does it also give the ability to have all the open windows show in miniature on the screen by simply moving the mouse to the corner? Or completely moving all open windows aside so you can search for some file or folder on the desktop?

No Trab, from what I have seen so far it does not show all open windows in miniature. Open windows are still registered on the Windows Taskbar. However if you minimise any program on the desktop then a miniature of the open program appears on the Rocket Dock as an icon.

Right now I can see my Outlook Express InBox miniaturised as an Icon on RocketDock and I can tell if email arrives on the miniature page. (Of course I have to click on the icon to bring back the full page to read the email.)

A Word document page likewise is shrunk to a recognisable Icon of that page. The icon size and the zoom size can be changed in the settings.

This in effect means the open windows are tabs on the taskbar (bottom of screen) whilst the icon miniatures of minimised windows are on the RocketDock at the top of the screen. This might not work for everyone but for me it works great.
