So, do you need some inspiration or cheering up?

I thought we could use a thread for favorite quotes.

Here are two from a favorite show:

-----

CRICHTON: You can be more.

-- Farscape 1.01, Premiere

CHIANA: You saved my life.

CRICHTON: Pass it on.

CHIANA: What?

CRICHTON: When someone else needs it, return the favor. You pass it on.

-- Farscape 1.22, Family Ties

Wow, I can't resist. I suppose I should have something slightly more construtive as a first post, but, oh well. I have a huge collection of quotes. One could say that collecting them is somewhat of a hobby.

Here's a small sample.

"They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist..." -- last words of General John Sedgwick (1864)

Ah, the Internet. Designed so that even in the event of nuclear war, our military leaders would still be able to access pornography.

"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." - Douglas Adams

"Power corrupts. Absolute power is kind of neat." - John Lehman, Secretary of the Navy, 1981-1987

Oh, and pretty much anything from the Devil's Dictionary. Hmm interesting that three of the four quotes were from some member of the armed services...

Ah well, I hope to see some other good ones!

Two of my favourites from movies are:

"Kindly do not confuse the issue with facts" -- George Banks in Mary Poppins

"The first rule of leadership -- It's always your fault" -- Hopper in A Bug's Life

In response:

Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard. Be Evil.

hmm. your quote confuses me. Wouldn't power (or addiction to) be a weakness? And don't you have to have a weakness for something? A weakness itself isn't a specific attribute.

i gues absolute power can light a lot of homes... sorry that was bad. in any case, on to quotes:

these are from peter hoeg from his book tales of the night

"I know, of course, that from dust I have come, but at some point I must have turned away from the living. And yet it was my fate to turn my back on life only to be invaded by and filled -- from behind as it were -- with love."

and

"No one journeys this far for a love that will decay... through love, energy increases..."

from billy merrell

"I will hold you

until you wake up; I will let you have your dream

and let you be mine"

and

"Your father dies,

and I think of the bald corduroy of his

Sunday suits, the sweet pastel of mints

he excavates from the depths of his pockets.

Goodnight. His closed lips seem to say

there is no point in being afraid of death."

(Reviving an old thread)

One of my favorite pieces of dialogue:

(during a paintball game)

Mike: "This your first time, kid?"

Businessman: "I'm 36."

Mike: "This your first time, old man?"

Businessman: "Yeah, I've always fancied myself a soldier."

Tim: "I've always fancied myself."

Mike: "I've always fancied you."

Tim: "...Not here."

[spaced - season one, episode 4]
