The angst-o-meter pretty much bursts into flames from overload in this story, where everyone except the two principal characters can see what's going on.  The suspense builds to the very end.  If it was a movie, the audience would be throwing things at the screen.  You'll have to read to see whether these guys ever figure it all out.
