4 JULY 2008

Recommended Posts

In parts of Mississippi, particularly Vicksburg, Natchez & Port Gibson, the 4th of July has only recently begun to be celebrated.

The fortress of Vicksburg, after a long and bloody siege, surrendered to Union forces July 4, 1863.

And just think, James, the CSA could have won if they'd allied themselves with the British.

BTW, it's not rude to 'celebrate' American Independence Day on a website chock-full of Brits? Oughtn't we offer them condolences or something...? :wav:

Yes... King George III never really got over the tragedy of it. Not something we're used to celebrating, over this side of the pond! Nevertheless we can (at this remove) graciously wish you a happy celebration of your quaint custom!
