Grant Bentley
This has probably been discussed here before in another thread, but I haven't found it. If it has, maybe someone can just point me to it. If not maybe someone can enlighten me. I found this quote somewhere and it brings up a question that I have never been able to answer adequately for myself. ?War, Rape, Child Abuse, Murder, Pedophilia, Poverty, Equal rights for gays. Guess which one the Southern Baptist Convention is protesting?? -The Value of Families. Maybe one of you can give me some insight into why being gay is such a big issue? What makes homosexuality or better yet, homophobia, so damned important when there is so much other crap going on? I just don't get it. Quote Link to comment
E.J.
Low hanging fruit...... It is easier to say bad things about gay people than it is to actually do something about fixing one of the other items on your list. Quote Link to comment
The Pecman
Well, SmallTown, you're preaching to the choir. When people attempt to associate being gay with the other problems on that list, you know their values and priorities are screwed-up. Falwell and some of those other nudnicks have often said, "well, if we allow gays to marry, then the next thing you know, people will want to marry animals!" They resist the simple concept that people marrying people -- of any race or sex or age (assuming it's over the age of consent) -- is perfectly reasonable. I would favor adding a provision to any gay marriage law to the effect that no church should be forced to allow a gay marriage in their building. I concede that there are certain religious sects and fundamentalists who will never allow it anyway, so to me, it's not a big deal. It's their freedom not to allow it within their congregation. But forbidding us to get married somewhere else is totally unreasonable. Quote Link to comment

JamesSavik
Pastors have it tough: they have to come up with a sermon every Sunday. They can't preach about the ills of divorce, half the congregation is divorced. They can't preach about the ills of casinos and gambling: where would they eat lunch after church? The casino buffets are the best in town. They can preach about those evil homosexuals because they either aren't there or don't have the power to cause the preacher any trouble. Quote Link to comment
