Scrivener is the innovative software for writers that takes a different approach to word processing and lets you organise your work as you develop your story. It's available primarily for the Mac but there's now a version for Windows (it's not functionally identical to the Mac version but similar) and the new Windows version has just been given a rave review at PC Pro magazine here:
