This one short scene reveals the characters' relationship in a way that you couldn't do with a paragraph of exposition. "Show, Don't Tell" at its finest.

There's a ton of good storytelling in The Wire, and I like how the show illustrates how morally-complex a lot of these situations are. You have good cops, bad (or inept) cops, regular bad guys, very bad guys, informants, witnesses, government officials, and then everybody else. And it seems like everybody often has a hidden agenda, nothing is quite what it seems, and everybody is a little guilty of something.

This is the kind of show that, when the cops rush in and bust a drug dealer, one guy will go into a room and say, "hey, Sarge! I just found ten thous-... I mean, five thousand dollars in cash!" (If you know what I mean.)
