Tony Scott RIP

When I woke up this morning I heard the news that Tony Scott had jumped to his death from a bridge in Los Angeles. I still can't believe it.

We never know what kinds of currents and debris lie just under the surface.

The news reports he may have had inoperable brain cancer. Perhaps he felt it best to end his life quickly, but in doing so he must have hurt the ones he loved in his family. A very talented man in an industry he shared with his brother. You know he will be missed.

You never know what inner demons haunt someone until you walk in their shoes. Even someone who, on the surface, may seem to have lots of monetary success may have terrible doubts and anxieties. Not everybody who kills themselves is crazy, and I think people have the right to make that decision (provided they truly have no other options).

But regardless, it's very sad. I worked on a couple of commercials for Tony in the early 1990s, and I remember him as being very gracious and funny.

I hope he found the peace he was looking for.
