DesDownunder
From someone called Gary at My Gay Stories site: For those who haven't heard, Washington State just passed two new laws - gay marriage and legalized marijuana. The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect Biblical sense because Leviticus 20:13 says "If a man lies with another man they should be stoned." Evidently, We just hadn't interpreted it correctly before! Quote Link to comment
Cole Parker
I've always said the bible was like any written material: subject to personal interpretation. It's why I always am so disappointed in those who say their way of interpreting it is the only way. Disappointed because they don't afford us the same freedoms they enjoy. They insist we accept their own interpretations and none others. They get to choose; we don't. Sounds very much like bullying, to me. C Quote Link to comment
Chris James
Of course at the time the Bible was written they knew all about getting stoned. Just imagine the flow of Lebanese hash that was flowing across the border into the Holy Land back then, long before the hippies of the 1960's made it popular in this country. Groovy man! And a lot of ignorant fundamentalists don't get that what we think of as The Bible (old and New testament) were written over a period of hundreds of years, most likely by dozens and dozens of scholars, some translating ancient languages to Latin and then (eventually) to English. Lots got cut through editing, interpretation, censorship, while other passages just plain got lost over the years. I always felt that all the Bible was was simply a collection of moral stories designed to give you the rough framework and philosophy for life -- not rigid rules that could not be bent or broken under any circumstances. It baffles me that, to this day, there are people who want to take the Bible purely at face value, while also choosing to ignore some of the more outlandish rules, parables, and stories it has. Check out this list for some appalling examples: http://www.bigissueg...eshocking.shtml Quote Link to comment
Merkin
In some households, especially here in the South, The Bible may be the only printed book ever owned and ever read all the way through. Its influence cannot be overestimated. Quote Link to comment
