Spring! When tightly-coiled boys
Eject from their houses,
Reclaim their old bikes
To race and do wheelies,
Then check out the creek
And run, run, run
In mud-soaked sneakers,
To build a fort in a wooded lot
So they can play cops and robbers
Until the light begins to fail,
When they can pretend not to hear
Parents calling them in
From games like Red Rover
And Capture the Flag.
