To Be Me

a poem by Codey

In searching for an easy life,

some kowtow and try to fit in,

as if begging for forgiveness

for the commission of a sin.

This sin is named by bigots

and by too many of us believed.

They've bought the lies of the many,

not realizing they've been deceived.

The lives they lead may seem okay

but it's all a big charade.

I'd rather live my own life

than join in their masquerade.

To improve our station on the wheel of life,

I'll gladly become a pinion.

But I'll be damned and fight like hell

before I become anyone's minion
