JamesSavik
I love The Eagles. They are still played on the radio in the Bay Area. Cool. Colin Hotel California had three amazing songs right in a row: Hotel California, New Kid in Town and Life in the Fast Lane. I remember people used to program their tape players to continuous and play that tape all night. Link to comment
TalonRider
When Hotel Californina first came out, it took awhile for me to hear the whole song. I always managed to catch the instrumental when I turned the car radio on. Link to comment

JamesSavik
1975 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zACEJdFOpA Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.Shine on you crazy diamond.Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.Shine on you crazy diamond.Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine! So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?A smile from a veil?Do you think you can tell?Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?Hot ashes for trees?Hot air for a cool breeze?Cold comfort for change?Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears.Wish you were here. JamesSavik
If you wonder what this thread has all been about, I had to immerse myself in the experience to do my latest story. It's done now but will be a while before I publish it. The title is Getting to the Happily Ever After. It is a sequel to a story I did a while ago called the Place in Between. All of the music mentioned in the story and more is here in this thread. I think it does a good job capturing this moment in time. It was the seventies and... you sorta had to be there. -JS Hope you enjoy! Link to comment

Guest Dabeagle
'You Really Got Me' isn't a Kinks tune? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, Though I always loved their 'Lola' and 'Celluloid Heroes". Link to comment

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, Though I always loved their 'Lola' and 'Celluloid Heroes". It is. I used to get a kick out of hearing people call it a Van Halen song. Here is the much older Kinks version of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7ffgqjcH40 Link to comment
ChrisR
Geesh - most of you guys are still kids! (Well, except for the rep from down under.) We had music from the greats before they were great. Tower of Power and Carlos Santana both played for our dances when I was in high school. And oddly enough, Tower of Power recently announced they're losing their lead singer to Santana. And Woodstock looked like a good time, but Woodstock West (at Altamont) defintely was. Link to comment
