Bruin Fisher
Interesting that Britain doesn't even make the bottom of the table. Here there's a tragic disparity between areas. I have had fibre optic broadband for over two years now, and get speeds of 50Mbps and higher. The other side of the town where I live you can't get speeds higher than 12Mbps. One of my own neighbours just two doors away from me was getting 1.5Mbps until I pointed out to her that her service provider's contract guarantees a speed higher than 2Mbps. She's now changed her provider and gets 12Mbps. There's a village about five miles from the nearest town, and 30 miles from me, where there is no mobile phone coverage, and broadband speeds are 1 - 1.5Mbps - and the service providers, when asked/complained to, state there is no plan to upgrade the service in the near future. Britain's mobile broadband speed comes top of the table, but that's for customers who have a 4G service. Many don't, and for them the internet on their mobile device is an experience like watching paint dry. Quote Link to comment
DesDownunder
I'm on what we call ADSL2 Broadband with 20MB/s limit. In reality my distance from the exchange limits me to 6MB/s. Webpages load between 1 to 10 seconds, and YouTube streams fine. In reality it seems the web is slower than my connection, most of the time. My generation demands instant gratification, so I'm happy with the speed as porn is so fast I often miss the money shots. (No, I'm kidding. I've never missed a money shot, and neither has the keyboard.) Quote Link to comment
Merkin
You kids and your obsession with speed. I'll continue to drive at 30 miles per hour, thank you, and I like to clear my throat at least six times between sentences to give me time to think. Quote Link to comment
JamesSavik
It's stuff like this that they like to keep us distracted from. Because if you asked too many questions, you would discover that the esteemed politicians on the goverenment side have no idea what they are doing and the corporations that run the networks would rather screw each other than cooperate. It is what we technical types call a cluster f*ck. Quote Link to comment
Rutabaga
I'm sorry, but this article is full of unbridled nonsense. If anyone thinks that giving the FCC greater control over Internet service is going to improve things by providing better performance at lower prices, I've got a great bridge available that I haven't been able to unload on eBay. colinian
Our internet connection (when it's not down for repairs of fiber cables) through Wave Communications is rated at 100 Mbps. I just ran a test using Ookla and download is 108.34 Mbps and uplolad is 10.50 Mbps. Colin Quote Link to comment
DesDownunder
Colin has now received offers from several thousand people all wanting to move into his spare bedroom. Quote Link to comment
Bruin Fisher
Isn't Colin always getting requests to move into his spare bedroom? Quote Link to comment
Lugnutz
Nah. They want the main room. Quote Link to comment
colinian
Most of them want to give me brochures for stuff like solar panels and fake grass and something called the "Watchtower" and boy scouts trying to sell horrible popcorn and girl scouts trying to sell expensive cookies and... umm, wait a minute... where did that cute boy scout go? Colin (Doug would definitely not be pleased if he read this post! But it was just a joke! Really!!) Quote Link to comment
Cole Parker
I can't tell you how many copies of The Watchtower I've graciously not accepted. I did get a Mormon bible once. They at least have some very cute emissaries. C Quote Link to comment

TalonRider
I occasionally get approached by someone asking if I'd like some reading material. I tell her, 'No thanks, I have my own.' and pick up my Nook. Quote Link to comment
