  1. A very varied career.

Somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby

Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
    Away above the chimney tops
    That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
    Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

    If happy little bluebirds fly
    Beyond the rainbow
    Why, oh why, can't I?

  2. It's not an ISP issue. I'm in hospital and tagging onto their wifi. They regard most Gay Story sites as naughty, the only ones I've found to work are Awesome Dude and Dabeagles Doghouse.

Can't complain, my access in the first place is dubious!

  3. Does anyone know what the problem is? I've been getting "under construction" all week. I had been following the latest Andrew Foote story, and am suffering withdrawal symptoms.

I am using a borrowed iPad as I'm in hospital but I don't think it's the wifi blocking it, unlike Castle Roland which it considers very naughty. Can't complain, I think I'm not supposed to use the wifi anyway.

  4. Yes, it reads like a screenplay for the last episode of a series on TV where they want to get series two made. Something that is rife in American commercial TV. And to a lesser extent, commercial TV anywhere.

I don't blame Arthur for wanting a rest, but we all would have appreciated a bit of closure, and would have read book/series 2 as well. This way though makes me less likely to, not more. You don't usually have a second chance if you insult the reader.

  5. The PM has stated she has wants to have the agreement of the First Minister of the Scottish Assembly before triggering Article 50. As Scotland voted to Remain that agreement might be hard to get.

That has to be the understatement of the week. Impossible more like.

Is it any wonder that I sometimes feel that I have been abducted by aliens and put back on to the wrong planet?

They can be a bit careless, after all, what's 100 light years between friends!

  6. One can argue about numbers till the cows come home, but since more than half who voted, voted for Bexit, and that as a number is greater than voted for the party in power (Conservative) does anyone think they'll be re-elected if Article 50 is not triggered?

Since the Labour party was also in favour of staying in - and they are currently engaged in activities incompatible with convincing anyone, and perhaps even themselves - they too form an unelectable party.

Good as they may be in local government (or at least they are round my way) I do not think the Liberal party presents a credible front either.

Thankfully, the silly season (MPs on their holidays basically) is nearly over and we might see some real action one way or the other.

The real problem though is Brexit was not a single issue. Immigration was touted as the main issue but laws made by others with a misunderstanding of the issues (vide 3rd directive on driving licences re tricycles and motorbikes) and no trackable path on modifications. Hansard provides a brilliant resource in the UK, there is no equivalent in Brussels.

  7. As I'd hoped, 10/10 for both. However, I've never heard or seen the phrase relating to the member of the equidae family without the word 'years' being appended.

And Cole, while a cream cake can and is referred to that way, it's not in common usage. Not uncommon either, but I'd have not picked it as an example.

    Cars are much more fun

    English American

    Big end Crank bearing
    Bonnet Hood
    Boot Trunk
    Cam follower Lifter
    Chassis Frame
    Circlip Snap ring
    Dynamo Generator
    Grease nipple Zert/Zerk
    Plain bearing Bushing

    Steering ball joint Steering knuckle
    Wing Fender

  8. I'm still reading, and enjoying it. I will admit I thought it was too complex to read other than at a single sitting, but so far, I've surprised myself with both my recall and that although the premise is very complicated, Altimesis's approach is to my weird brain, logical.

But, pretty well any chapter could have re-percussions on a later one, it's not the sort of thing that invites comments until all is done.

Very, very few authors can do time travel in the first place, and to do it well is even harder with a much smaller group. So far, Altimexis seems to have joined them. Roll on Wednesday...

  9. I would also include "On the High Plains of Wyoming," still one of my favorites.

That tale gets my nomination for best short story of any genre. There is something about the principle character that draws one in, coupled with the factual parts about the difficulties with long range marksmanship.

  10. It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings. And then it's over. And everyone will be complaining because it's over!

    Colin :icon_geek:

The fat lady singing, in the spoiler.

So perhaps best to wait before viewing.

Kate singing that song had a role near the end of the film "The return of Captain Invincible". One of the best 'B' movies of all time.

Patty Patria. This is the American Eagle Network, broadcasting one last time... for all of you out there who still believe in fairies, heroes, second chances... love and trust. Captain, they're playing your song.

    Joking aside, an excellent story.
