I just went back and re-read this. It's just as good now as it was a few years ago. A wise and loving parent and the sweetest kid that you can imagine impart their gifts to each other, and we readers get to watch. No villains, no drama, just a lot of warm fuzzies. I know I have said this before about some of Cole's other stories, but this one has to be his best!

I really enjoyed this story. First, it showed an example of great parenting: I wish my own father had been more like that. At the same time, the father in that story is giving the reader good advice on finding the balance between assertiveness and overreacting. And I liked seeing the boy's growth as, encouraged by his father, he found his own creative solutions to his problems. And of course, I enjoyed seeing the haberdasher being gently put in his place. Great story!
