  1. Hi Nigel,

I wasn't able to find a copy of the documentary but it can be found at some libraries, universities, etc. There was a post on David Icke's forum of all places that lists some sites where it can be viewed, I also happened to find a book with the same title on eBay. Apparently it followed the airing of the TV program. Good luck with your hunt, You might want to check eBay sometimes - most things end up there eventually.

There are two ways you can view “Johnny Go Home”through the British Film Institute but it isn’t available to watch from home.

The first thing to do is to check with your local library whether they are members of BFI Screenonline.Membership was only available to Schools, Universities,Colleges, and Libraries and new registrations are currently suspended. If you are lucky and they are members, you could ask them for access and you can watch the majority of the documentary online through them. It is split into four clips, The End of the Line Part 1 and Part 2, and The Murder of Billy Two-Tone Part 1 and Part 2.

Alternatively, BFI has Mediatheques around the country in which you can view “Johnny Go Home” as a 100-minute video. There are Mediatheques in the following locations:

    BFI Southbank, London
    Library of Birmingham
    National Media Museum, Bradford
    Central Library, Cambridge
    Quad, Derby - 01332 290 606
    Bridgeton Library, Glasgow
    Central Library, Manchester
    Discovery Museum, Newcastle
    Wrexham Library, Wrexham

  2. I'm sorry Larkin - what is this a quote from? I can't find it in any of our posts above it, and nor can I find it in the BBC article. I want to comment, along the lines of 'the parts of the British press that would print something like this are not fit to be used as toilet paper' - but I was hoping to drill down and find which newspaper said it - and of course I can't.

Bruin, I think perhaps the quote may reference a story I saw in the Daily Mail - it was from November of last year.

  3. I hope he makes the team. Most picks taken that late don't. Yet I think he was the defensive player of the year in their conference. He has a good chance.

Outsports is reporting that the Rams cut him from the squad. He didn't make the 53 player roster. Sam can be picked up by any of the other teams in the league during the next 24 hours or he may play in the Rams practice squad.

Such a shame - I think he deserves a place in pro football.

  4. The local news is reporting that as of Thursday Danny has received over 30,000 cards and 3,000 packages from all over the world. The family has had to hire a U-haul truck to carry everything home. More cards and packages are expected today, Danny's birthday.

***Today at 100,000 cards and packages***

  5. It's a great film, very well acted. Isherwood doesn't come across as a very likeable person, though....

At the end of the film Auden said to Isherwood:

"The only cause you care about is yourself...You've turned it into an art form, rather successfully as it happens."

There was a documentary made about the second half of Isherwood's life - "Chris and Don: A Love Story." It's about his years in California with the artist Don Barchardy. Below is the film's trailer.

  6. An interesting story about this book at a VA high school via Towleroad: http://www.towleroad.com/2014/04/va-school-committee-votes-unanimously-to-keep-two-boys-kissing-on-shelves.html

A parent complained about the book being on the shelves of the school library saying that "...she believed that the cover of the book condoned public displays of affection, which are against school policy…" Apparently no mention was made that the display of affection was between two boys. Other parent's objected to the use of "the F-word" again apparently not saying anything about the gay content.

One teacher stated the obvious when she said: “If the focus of this book was on heterosexual teen relationships, it would not be the subject of a book challenge…" Of course it wouldn't The review committee voted unanimously to keep the book on library shelves however the decision may still be subject to appeal.

  7. A Palm Sunday letter to Pope Francis. http://www.faithinamerica.org/nyt-ad/

Roman Catholic Executive Director of NYC’s Ali Forney Center Invites Pope Francis to See Real Impact of Teachings and Meet Homeless LGBT Youth

New York, NY, April 13, 2014 – Faith in America, an organization that educates the public about the immense harm caused by religion-based stigma and hostility, and Carl Siciliano, the Executive Director of the Ali Forney Center, an organization serving homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth in New York City, today delivered a letter to Pope Francis and published the content of the letter in a full page ad in The New York Times.

The letter asks Pope Francis to stop church teaching labeling being gay as “intrinsically disordered” and categorizing “homosexual conduct” as a sin, citing statistics and numerous stories about LGBT young people who have faced violence, parental rejection, homelessness and other devastating losses because of the teachings. The letter, published on Palm Sunday, comes before Pope Francis holds a global meeting of bishops in October 2014 to focus on “Pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelization.”

The full letter is available here: http://www.faithinamerica.org/2010-2/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/PROOF4_NYTimes_FP_lettertothepope_4-13-14.pdf
