  1. i'm more scared of getting hit up there by the KKK than anything else. but, just for your information, don't go to sacramento, ever. i mean, just the fact that there's tweak and the KKK should be enough. but now there's russian pentecostal A55H0135, too? i'm about angry enough to give someone my pirogi.

seriously, though. does anyone think these russians became thugs so they'd fit in more?

Here's an update of a Sacramento homophobic attack/murder that occured in July. One suspect (a Russian) has been apprehended. The other suspect is back in Russia.

    http://www.towleroad.com/2007/08/one-of-two-susp.html.

  2. This is simply how the Russian's do business which explains why their country is so wretched and they live like peasents and crime bosses rule like feudal lords.

Excellent points, James. I would also include the clandestine ex-KGB organization, Dignity and Honor, and Putin's actions of freedom restrictions into the mix. Very curious, indeed. As you suggest, "scapegoating" in an artform in Russia...orchestrated from the top. The Church officials are willing pawns.

  3. It is a very different story than that normally found when looking for gay fiction, and even more remarkable when you consider that the story was written by a teenager.

Came late to the party...but made it, nonetheless. Just had a chance to read Chapter One and the emotion-packed synoposis of Raymond's earlier family life. Killing off child characters is a tough call, but it is part of life. I say 'eff' the flames. Look forward to continuing the story.

BTW - not to be drippy, but it's Farrah Fawcett, not Faucet.

  4. 3.0

The cleverness of Bo and references to his magic are very intrigung. Did he arrive in Todd's life on purpose to prevent a suicide attempt? Is ESP involved? Is Bo some sort of representative from a higher force? Looking into Bo's eyes, Todd sees flecks of gold amongst a field of green...or something like that. Is that just a reflection or does this portray a deeper meaning of Bo's magic?

I was surprised to find out Todd is merely 29 years old. I think the description of the mythical town in Chapter One and the mention of 60 years made me originally think of Todd as much older.

    Nice pace.

  5. What point was that in chapter 1.0? That was not meant to be implied. He was considering suicide. If that was not clear, please tell.

I understood the melancholy of Todd as he tossed down a few. I assume that the following is a clue to the thoughts about suicide: But the gin was loosening him up, and the fact that he had no one better to talk to only strengthened the resolve of his recent decision. Went right over my head. Even with the mention later in the chapter of 30 Percocen tablets , I didn't consider that Todd was suicidal.

  6. For me, it worked. He was also drunk at the time and mixing up words is common when drunk -- that's what I took it to be....I think it is clear what Todd thinks Bo's work is, but as I said in an earlier thread, the use of the phrase "work to be done" sounds like an obligation to do the work, which is not what I would think a hustler would think.

Most interesting premise of a story for this exercise. I like the way Todd's thoughts about his earlier moments with Bo were played out in Chapter 2.0. My confusion came from dialogue and emotional expressions where two characters shared one paragraph.

I was also puzzled by a point in Ch. 1.0 where it appears that Todd is 60 y.o. and is dying. I don't think that was what was meant to be implied...but this is what I got from it.

Look forward to more. I begrudgingly am making comments because earlier emails of last year were never answered.

  7. This story was originally brought to my attention by fellow author DesDownunder in a private author/editor's forum, saying it is "a very interesting and enjoyable read with some good writing on a different slant on the college scene". The Pecman followed up with the comment, "Absolutely terrific story...".

I enthusiastically concur. Duncan Ryder is the author and this story is his first effort in writing a novella with a gay theme. Outstanding read so far. Six chapters have been posted and I'm told it'll end at around Chapter 10.

    Enjoy,

  8. Thanks Des. And thanks for the Happy Canada Day wishes for us Canajuns on July 1st. (Don't sweat it Des. I don't know the Aussie 'day' either.)

Thanks, Des. I wished the Canucks the best on another site this past Sunday. Oz celebrates Australia Day towards the end of January. Here's a nice quote I found:

On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. It's the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation.

With the temps in P.S. scheduled to hit 120 degrees F. tomorrow, I think I'll take in a movie...and write a little. Maybe watch the fireworks on the telly.

  9. I came across this story by a recommendation and was spellbound from the first page. Special Forces is a co-authored work of miltary gay erotic fiction by two men: Marquesate (a Scottsman) and Vashtan (a German who now lives in London). The first of three cycles has been finished: Soldiers (1980 - 1989), and the authors have been working on the second cycle: Mercenaries (1990 - 1997). This section currently contains three chapters that takes the reader up to 1991. It appears that the two authors post a long chapter each month.

Here is a little preview I copied from their site:

It is the epic story of a Scottish SAS soldier and a Soviet spetsnaz soldier. Two enemies who meet in the line of duty during the early days of the Soviet Union's last war in Afghanistan. Behind enemy lines respect and finally love grow ... but that's only the official version.

The reality of these two men is dark, brutal, fueled by aggression and insane lust. Steeped in pain and killing, with death as their shoulder companion, these Special Forces soldiers meet in 1980. Their intense hatred caused by rape, revenge and torture turning into fucked-up lust and years of secret encounters in the rat-infested labyrinth of Kabul and the Afghan mountains. Time, despair and desolation smoothing down the sharpness of hatred, its venom drained with each physical encounter, the lust helping to form an understanding that only two men of the same kind can share. Enemy Mine and Brothers in Arms - on two different sides.

This novel spans across over thirty years of their lives. It's harsh and violent, but life is cruel and they just do what they need to survive.

It is exceptional, unusual writing that can be brutal, tender, savage, questioning...you throw in the descriptives...all at the same time.

Let me know what you think. I think it's some of the best gay-themed fiction I've read.

  10. Marvellous! I loved it.

I don't remember exactly what I was up to at the age of 12. Probably horny, confused and in complete denial.

This is a beautiful coming of age moment for the two young men-to-be. Richie - has he written other things? - really captures the mood. I strongly suggest it be included in the Best of Nifty update.

    Jack

  11. A small boy is sent to bed by his father.

    Five minutes later...."Da-ad...."

    "What?"

"I'm thirsty. Can you bring drink of water?"

"No, You had your chance. Lights out."

    Five minutes later: "Da-aaaad....."

    "WHAT?"

"I'm THIRSTY. Can I have a drink of water??"

I told you NO! If you ask again, I'll have to spank you!!"

    Five minutes later......"Daaaa-aaaad....."

    "WHAT!"

"When you come in to spank me, can you bring a drink of water?"

  12. :icon5::cry::icon5: ----> Boom!--> Poof! ---> :icon5::icon5::icon5:

Seriously, the real danger here is that the same type of minds that thought these things up might be considering a heterosexual bomb to make everyone become their version of straight.

Definitely 5 stars for best use of icons. And the "poof" is priceless.

Here is a quote from CBS5:

The documents show the Air Force lab asked for $7.5 million to develop such a chemical weapon.

Is this scary, or what? How about $7.5 million for the Army hospitals? Friggin' crazy.

  13. With no apologies to the socialite, here is a list from "DListed" concerning what ADD for Paris (notice we need no last names...like Cher) really stands for:

    Awesomely Dumb Disease

    Ass 2 Dick Disease

    Arrogant Dullard Disorder

    Annoying Dumb Dicksucker

    Annoying Dick Depository

    Absolute Dum Dum

    Adult Dick Drainer

    Anal Douche Dumpster

    Any Drugs'll Do

Can we now get on with the quest for world peace?

    Jack :icon5:

P.S. If this is considered too rude or off-color, I offer my hand for slapping by "Dude".

  14. Which promps the reply: go and dip your toes :icon_geek:

D'Artagnon writes fantasy. It's very good - if you like fantasy - though I'd start with 'Coupe'.

Thanks, Camy, for the suggestion. I have just started Chapter 8 and find the fantasy amusing and exciting. That I'm reading about the lives of guys in their early teens is really beside the point. (I should point out that my tastes are drawn to adult themes).

One question: Coupe is written in a very breezy first person style...with amusing sidebar editorial comments from the character to the reader. Is this his style in all the stories?

    Jack :icon13:

  15. It seems D'Artagon's hiatus has come to a end.

My curiosity and search for new stories prompts this question: who is the author and does he write in a particular genre? Except for the brilliant Mike Arrum and the mysterious Jack Rowan, I don't go to IOMFATS very often.

  16. However the only story we posted was Through Different Eyes... which I enjoyed immensely, and which deserves to be on Best of Nifty... but I believe I asked you for the link to it's Nifty location for that purpose, dear Pecman, but received no response from you. The link we have is courtesy our friends at The Mail Crew.

I used a cross-reference to find the story on Nifty and came up empty-handed. BTW, this is an excellent link to use:

  17. Maybe we should be addressing the reasons for these departures by excellent authors?

This is a great topic. However, usually the author is so withdrawn that emails are usually not returned. David Buffet, for example. I loved Alpha Male and wondered after reading it a second time why the writing stopped.

I know one excellent author, Evan Bradley, who is so busy with his real job that writing has taken a back seat. Same situation with the superb writer, John Yager. Another, who I will not name, has serious issues with his wife concerning the man's bi-sexuality.

Others, I think, give up when the feedback dwindles. Readers can be a fickle lot.

  18. I stumbled across the Shades of Gray blog yesterday and found the style of writing very creative. http://shadesofgray.typepad.com/shades_of_gray/. His slice-of-life vignettes and stream of conscious entries intrigue me. A blog with dialogue. Go figure. I know absolutely nothing of the guy - Ethan Gray - other than he lives in Manhattan.

Speaking of blogs, I also want to second Cole Parker's recommendation of Terry Audette's blog on his site: http://www.mygaystories.com/Blog.htm. The sense of humor is over the top. Terry's two continuing stories - The Good Doctor and Protecting David - are still fresh. I always look forward to a new chapter.

  19. He was known at one point as Driver9 and that's how I knew him.

Thanks, WBMS, for providing a link to his stories that are still available. I just finished "Falling Off a Log" and totally agree with your assessment. I'm going through a little writer's block starting a new story and Driver was a nice diversion. I can't imagine what must of happened to make him withdraw.

Being an older guy, coming of age/coming out stuff usually doesn't interest me. But the way Driver handles the lives of these 14-year olds is quite refreshing.

    S P O I L E R alert:

I thought having the protagonist to be an accepting, young man who discovers that he is most comfortable as a hetero added depth and dimension to the story.
