  1. OMG! Altimexis, please tell me it isn't true that 28 is advancing age! I'll have to go to the surgical supply stores near where I live and see if either of them has a deal on walkers; Doug will need one, too. ?‍♂️

The cable company we use (there are two here), Wave, uses a Tivo for their cable box/DVR. It's easy to set up shows that we like to watch but we don't keep up with the live broadcasts. And the Tivo has Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Plex, YouTube, Here, Yahoo, HBO GO, a half-dozen for kids, all the network and local station streaming, and a bunch of others that we don't pay any attention to. We also have Android TV on our TV and Amazon Fire TV. The number of choices is overwhelming (must be our advanced age).

BTW, the Samaritan in the park did return looking for Mike who had already left; he found Mike's backpack and brought that to the police department along with Lyle's shirt.

Good one.  I'm not sure the younger crowd here will appreciate it to the extent that Des, James and I do!

I'm sure anyone in high school who's had a woman as a teacher who was of a certain age would appreciate this little joke. I certainly remember a couple teachers who would fit the bill (as my grandmother used to say).

All those extra spaces must bulk up those notebooks, Cole.  No harm in that—although you hardly need the assist, considering your output. ?

Just think, though, about all of the added work Cole's poor editors have slogging through all of those excess, unnecessary spaces while trying to discern the real meat of a story! ?+?+?+?+ =

  7. I love it when I find a story that I haven't read before. The current story in this category is one of AD's Short Story Picks from the Past for this month: "Hell To Pay" by Mihangel. It's short, it's hilarious. If you haven't read it, do so right now. Do not wait. You'll love it.

No, no, no.  Adjectivally, it has to be mamihlapinatapal.  Only makes sense.  Mamihlapinatapai: noun.  Mamihlapinatapal: adjective.  Now I suppose an argument could be put forth for the adjectival case being mamihlapinatapaial, but I won't be drawn in such trivial, pedantic nonsense.

The Yaghan language of the small tribe that calls Tierra del Fuego home (and are called the Yaghan or sometimes the Yamana) does not have a word spelled mamihlapinatapal. The word is mamihlapinatapai.

It also would be difficult to inject in a story being written in first person.

According to Wikipedia: A slightly different interpretation of the meaning also exists: "It is that look across the table when two people are sharing an unspoken but private moment. When each knows the other understands and is in agreement with what is being expressed. An expressive and meaningful silence."

    ---------------------------------------------

I sat across from Chris. I wanted to leave this place with him. I could tell from his expression that this was definitely a mamihlapinatapai moment. He grinned and stood up. "Jase and I have exams tomorrow. I hate to do it, but it's time for us to get back to our dorm room and hit the books. We'll catch up later on, okay?" We weren't planning to do that; another mamihlapinatapai moment. I almost choked trying to avoid laughing, and hid that by standing.

Margaret and Barbara looked at us. I could tell they were not pleased. Well, screw 'em. I smiled. That was something that certainly wasn't part of our plans — ever.
