DesDownunder
over 22,000 have now affirmed the Charter, which begins with, The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. The Dude already has this covered in our House Rule #1. Observe The Golden Rule. The Charter is a call to bring the world together, regardless of individual belief, and although there will those who deny its worth, I think anything we can do which expresses the aim of living in peace with one another at least deserves to be given a chance and encouraged. I particularly like the line which says, ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ Ultimately, I think the charter is an attempt to encourage everyone to constantly live and act with compassion. It will take effort, but then so does being violent and hateful. I'd rather be working against the suffering that is in the world, and that is for me what the Charter for Compassion is about.
