So, most of you old kodgers have probably heard of "Robert's Rules". He has many, many of them. Rules for everything. Including writing. It's . . . well . . . it's got 101 unconventional lessons every writer needs to know.

RULE 53: Set an Alarm Clock

"When you're constructing the plot, see if you can't install, somwhere deep in the machinery, a little clock that's counting down, second by second, to a big showdown of some sort."
