  1. One more time I am confused. Y'all can stop your groaning right now. Remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people.

It has to do with this, I'm gonna' step out on a limb here 'cause I'm really not certain of the term but this--thread, Hijacking a topic--is what exactly? I know what hijacking is. It is when you try to have an airplane fly where you want it to go, usually by force. Going up the pilot and telling him/her you'd like to go to the Bahamas rather than the intended destination of Juneau, Alaska, and saying 'please' is probably not hijacking. Putting a small calibre weapon to their temple with or without the 'please,' might be considered, at the least, attempted hijacking. So, if I said I was going to, or threatened to post one of my poems, that could be considered hijacking--correct? Poetry is not my strong suit, though I dabble in it from time to time.

These are important things to know as I may not like what someone is saying so I could just tell them if they kept it up I'd sumbit a poem. That of course would have them scrambling to talk about something else.

My other question; why would someone start a topic that asks the reader to hijack it? Is this racoon humor I'm missing?

  2. Ohmmmmm... oh hell no! That asshole just cut me off! WHOOPS! That's a lady... woofty! Two bagger, thank you come again!

Actually I was referring to when I know the general lay out of a town, and just meander down roads I've never traveled, but know... in general I'm going the right direction... kind of. lol Eventually I get to where I want to be, and I might just happen across a kick ass yard sale!

    :)

I've found it much easier to navigate on the West Coast and in the Mid-West than it is on the East Coast, we have too many old roads and hills. Newer cities and towns setup like grids are so much easier to navigate.

  3. I cannot stand studies that want to stereotype someone based on their sexuality. Other than liking men there isn't much else about me that is "Gay". I'm a gearhead and love to work on cars and drive the crap out of them. I love guns as well and go shooting as often as I can. The only things that could be considered "Gay" about me are the facts that I'm very much into fitness and nutrition and I'm somewhat "Metrosexual" when it comes to my appearance and hygiene. Hell, I'm probably more masculine than most of my "Straight" friends, but it doesn't affect who I love/lust after. As for navigation I tend to get lost easy when I'm in places I don't know but otherwise with a map and a destination I can get where I need to go. When I read about studies like this I want to call up the researches and ask them to study me and see if they get the same results.

  4. OK, now I haven't exactly had a lot of time to frequent the forums, here or at the other sites I frequent, and maybe I'm a bit naive here, but isn't the primary purpose of this form to discuss the story? :hehe: Maybe it's that silky smooth cerebral cortex I have - after all, I'm only a bird. All you raccoons and dogs and other mammals with your wrinkly brains - how can I possibly compete? :icon_geek: Maybe I should just give in and admit defeat. I'll just never understand the nuances of the forum - I'm just an obsequious little raven, after all. So please accept my humble apology for coming here to do something so inappropriate as to discuss the story.

OK, I confess - I've been a big fan of CP from his early days at Nifty. He tells a great story and has a wonderful way of getting inside the mind of kids - I guess it's just his child-like nature coming through. Anyway, I love the three primary characters Cole has so lovingly constructed for us. The way he gradually introduces us to each of them, making them real, is exceptional. The interplay between Kevin and Becky is priceless. Matt has really been undergoing a transformation, right before our eyes, from thinking he's a mature adult, to developing extreme guilt over what he did to Kevin. Kevin is obviously a rather precocious fourteen-year-old who has a much more mature way of thinking, thanks to what he's faced at home, but with still a bit of immaturity in there as becomes apparent in his reactions to things. It wasn't at all surprising Kevin would come clean to Matt, but for Matt to relate his story to Kevin took a major shift in his self-perception.

Matt is still in evolution. Knowing how Cole thinks, I still wouldn't put it past him to have him turn out straight (see Josh Evolving for an example of this), but I think we're getting very close to Matt accepting he's gay, if he hasn't already, and recognizing that the only one he'll fool in trying to put a lid on his feelings for Kevin is himself. So enter Timothy in chapter 18. I really thought we'd see Matt get jealous of Tim in chapter 19, but Cole never takes a straight path to his objectives, which is one of the things I love about his writing, frustrating though it may be. I'm still expecting jealousy to be the motivating force that pushes Matt into accepting his growing love of Kevin, but we shall see.

Chapter 19 was really classic. Here we had two teenagers who were intimidated as hell by each other and neither one recognized it in the other. All these years, Matt has been downright frightened of Brent and although he says he's moved on, his reaction to him clearly tells us he hasn't - at least not entirely. If anything, it was Brent's talking to Matt that will now allow him to do just that - seeing that Brent was every bit as much a victim of peer pressure and that although his pain wasn't as obvious as Matt's, he was hurt none-the-less. Both boys were able to come to closure on that episode of their lives, and I thought it was great.

Matt's refusal to win on a technicality was wonderful. Many of us can relate to the way he felt, but few of us will actually do something about it. Here he showed a degree of maturity that Kevin clearly lacked.

Great going Cole. Looking forward to chapter 20. Oh, and for those of you who weren't aware, the Dude often puts up the chapters as much as a day before he updates the AD page, so if you're a bit over-eager as I am, you can always go directly to the DDG page on Tuesday or Friday afternoon, or even manually type in the expected URL if you're particularly desperate. I, of course, would never do such a thing myself.

I agree with everything you've said. Chapter 19, while written in a slightly different style from the earlier chapters, had alot of important elements in it. It seems the style has shifted from 1st to 3rd to help incorporate the other 2 main characters. I like to think of it as Matt's shift from not having friends to having friends and his persepective on that matter and how he conducts himself has changed. Really, really, really looking foward to Chapter 20

  5. These sites are very informative.

    http://www.theozonehole.com/uvindex.htm

Personally I am so fair skinned that i have to be careful not to go outside when there is a full moon.

I tried to get a tan when I was younger and all I did was bleach whiter after I got over the sunburn poisoning.

My suggestion is to stay in bed until winter.

That first link was showing UV indexes in the 13-17 range, thats rediculous! The beaches must have some wicked nice eye candy with all those super tan bodies running around :icon_geek: . That or everyone looks redder than a cooked lobster from Maine

  6. Nah. Chapter 18 is gonna suck. Gotta have balance, eh? :lurker:

Of course we do. That's why we have a bunch of writers who post material on-time and regularly and why we have writers who take forever to post chapters on their stories about two guys, a garage, and a BMW... :icon10:

  7. I am done through chapter 19 (less whatever my editors manage to wreak)

I had planned this (as posted earlier) as 18 to 20 chapters. Ain't gonna happen. I am thinking right now it'll be 21 and a few loose ends won't get tied up (on purpose). Maybe 22. If I tie up loose ends it'll go to 23 but I like a few loose ends so 21 or 22 is likely my final count.

Also, my loyal reader(s)* will get a special bonus when it's all over. This will be announced in a forthcoming email.

December's chapter as you know was posted early (Thanksgiving). I will also have January's chapter posted for Christmas and there will be a bonus for everyone at that time. I promised one and am aiming to deliver my little holiday gift to my readers.

    * Defined as those who have written me at least once about NEAWMS.

So what's this holiday gift and when do we get it :icon10:

  8. Thanks, but that would probably not be a good idea for reasons I won't disclose.

I have one volunteer and a second probable volunteer which is sufficient enough, though not quite ideal.

It's okay, I don't think he can read books without pictures anyways :icon_twisted:

  9. :bunny:

I found a big mistake with chapter 12: it's much too short.

    MORE!!!!!!!

I found that CP's latest chapter of DDG left me very anxious throught the whole thing. It was almost as if you could guess where the story is going, but he likes to take his time getting there and it personally was driving me insane (in a good way). I love how Cole has the ability to delays dialoge responses with Matt's personal analysis of the situation, it shows a character depth that alot of writers tend to omit. It shows that Matt is thinking and not just mindlessly blurting things out. The end of the chapter left alot of things in the air and I think Ch 13 is gonna bring alot of conflicts into the light. Too bad we have to wait another week :icon_geek:

  10. The final count is 22. It's not done the editing process, but it is finished.

Expect further details in an email by 22 December. There will be several announcements and notations :) Emails are sent to regular readers who have e-mailed me at least once, or by written request.

Man, I have got to say this ending will rock your world. It's GOOD.

I cannot wait my furry little friend, sadly I will have to though :icon1:

  11. I'm bad at deciphering meanings of poems. If you're writing about the growing trend of mass murderers who go out and kill for fame and glory, then the poem isn't disturbing. It's the truth of the matter that is disturbing. I'm guessing there's a meaning behind the gunman being a she instead of a he.

I could go on about how anti-second amendment laws and people only hurt the lawful and help the criminal, but I save you all from that.
