  1. The basics are so some of us can get 100%.

Readers like to know this stuff, too, so they don't make fools of themselves when writing to writers.

So, is that a sentence or isn't it? Oh, it's a joke. Probably would help if I knew Pee Jay better; I got wickedman right away.

A simple explanation can take an inordinate amount of effort--thanks Jan.

  2. Yes, it does, very much. 9 I got right. 5 is said was. And even though in this case it helps my score for either word to be considered acceptable, I'm not sure how changes based on "vogue" will help in the long run. I can only hope it's not as arbitrary as it sounds...

    Thanks Cole.

  3. I don't get why 5 and 9 are both were.

I might ordinarily have chosen it for both, but I was trying to follow the rule as I understood it. (Yes, I know where the emphasis lies in that sentence)

The answer has to be simple compared to him/her, her/him; I have to wonder if we ever attain anything approaching equality, if we will worry less about who's on top. I said worry, preferences are a different matter all together. :wav:

Rule or law, i'll not choose shall. It's just...stuffy.

  4. When Reta was about the age of this child, we were in the car and she asked me where we were going. "Crazy" was my response.

When I pulled into the driveway at home, she burst into tears, screaming

"I want to go to Crazy!!!!"

Explain figures of speech to a three year old...

Haha, thanks for the memories, Cole. How DO you find this stuff?

  5. Certainly some squabbling was to be expected, Des. You can't buy this kind of entertainment.

Cole, your explanation worked for me. That ought to scare you. Wibby, yours did, too, but that's to be expected. :wav:

But I don't get the her/it thing at all. I'll just avoid that one. Easy enough in conversation. Written conversation-easier yet.

Next lesson awaits. Thanks, Jan, all.

  6. This is definitely the one time I always, and clearly, think "I'm soooo glad i'm a girl.

But there's also one where I think "Next time i'mma be a boy, and have one of those..."

    No, Freud, it's isn't a penis.

Funny flash, Cole, and mischievous too.

  7. I'm thinkin' it had somethin' to do with...somethin'.

I'm a big fan of spontaneous responses in general, and those moments when

everything relevant hits you in the space of a second and you know what to do

    and you do.

    Nice work, Gee.

  8. So am I safe as long as I don't open any .pdf files?

And the evil twin, of course, am I screwed if I did?

OK, you knew it was coming, here's my question:

If I have to close my browser, how do I get the links? Hehe, that was what i'd ask last year, but today I think maybe I open the links first, close the browser, and give a go to the uninstaller, and when that's done, give a go to the other one. Laugh all you want, but do correct me if i'm wrong.

Forget what it is, Do I need Adobe AIR?

    Tracy

  9. Well, I'm sufficiently petrified. And I got at least 2 of these demons on my system..

I'mma shut her down until I get home from work, and can walk off the cliff that doing anything

    with files is for me.

I know what adobe reader does. And vaguely that flash players are for games and maybe animation of all kinds?

    What's adobe air?

Camy your links look really, really friendly. Adobe security advisor, not so much.

    Gotta pony-up for this one.

Thanks all, I wouldn't hear about it anywhere else.

  10. Thanks Camy, we must have been typing at the same time, because you weren't there when I hit "reply".

    OMG, I don't even have a picture phone. :conga[1]:

If dropbox is like "off-site storage" then that sounds useful. The free part, that's what I don't get.

We're using PC's and probably will for the rest of days, so I'm thinking flash drives will do the trick.

    Thanks everybody.

And of course, you're right, James, but I had to go look. :hehe:

  11. Ummmm, oke, but what's memory card and where do I stick it? :conga[1]: And I said mail, not letter, silly...

My kid has an "external hard drive" so I know it's square and has a cord type plug and it's own power cord, but that isn't saying I know where to stick that either. :omg:

I'm thinking a flash drive is your USB Memory stick, Trab, because that's what they look like in the store, and I do know what a USB port is, and that there's a 50/50 chance i'll stick it in the right way the first time. :hehe:

Thanks both of you  for playing along. No product endorsements, and I think I get that.

I'll just spin around and point. :cat:

  12. Hello Tekkies:

If I ever come here with a question that doesn't have a question within it (i.e.meaning I actually know what I'm asking), can we have a party? :hehe::conga[1]:

This is a simple question, and the question within is just what the thing i'm asking about is really called...

If a guy had a bunch of stories, and i'm guessing 30,000KB on the outside (and if that translates into some other number, don't laugh!) and wanted to put them on a____________ drive, and make an identical copy that could be sent by mail somewhere else, what would he need, a flash or external drive (what's the difference other than size and size, as long as i'm here) and who's everybody's favorite?

Thanks, even if you're rolling your eyes, I can count on your best answer. You guys are swell that way.

  13. I cried more than once during this one, willingly and without resistance. And I bet i'll do it again, in a year, when Cole reminds me to test my theory.

And as Camy said, you can't go wrong with a Cole Parker story. Probably all the work he puts into it, and then just a little bit more just in case. Or 'cuz he can.

    Thanks, Cole.

  14. Poetry for Lab Techs, and other Human Organisms :spank:

It is as I would imagine it, and I did the moment I read your mind right here

on the page. Wonderful. Haunting too, in a way. The same way I find

myself taking a deep breath when looking at the red cells of a person with

    Sickle Cell Anemia at 50x.

Thanks for your effort, and for sharing.
