  1. Graeme, correct me if I am wrong, but does this not mean the same sex couples in Mississippi are more open to raising children, than other more liberal states with a higher number of same sex couples? That would make it a gay issue, not a population issue?

Personally, I am just happy to be part of the aforementioned 33%, and might be a little bit biased. Not that it helps against the 78% of the population that would not spit on us if we were on fire.

  2. Huh? You know, you are right. You can make statistics say just about anything you want. The 2011 estimated census gives Mississippi 2,978,512 people... not many, right? Compared to Texas with 25,674,681, or California with 37,691,912, or New York at 19,465,197.

"Using 2010 U.S. Census data, The Williams Institute, a gender orientation and identity public-policy organization based at the University of California, finds that 901,997 same-sex couples live in the United States. Nationally, 22 percent of same-sex couples are raising children, but in Mississippi 33 percent are raising children. Mississippi has a total of 6,286 same-sex couples."--Jackson Free Press.

Still just statistics, but some pretty convincing numbers.

  3. I resently had a bet that went south with my boyfriend, who did not like my pit hair (It had a mind of its own and decided to have a huge growth spurt.). He said he would shave below if I did above. I figured he was bluffing, so allowed him to "trim me up". Now he looks like a Ken doll! Just too weird for me.

  4. Just my two cents, but I think it is a travesty of justice! Yes, it will always be in his record, and get brought up when he applies for jobs in the future, but the boy he destroyed has no future. Straight or gay, it was wrong. The fact he tried to do it a second time shows it was not "just a prank". This was an on-going vendetta.

  5. Even for as young as I am, I have problems in my lower back and upper thighs. My physical therapist introduced me to the most wonderful of treatments... a heated hydo-spa. We started with him bending me in some rather torturous-looking ways, but I barely have the pains as before. I highly recomend the spa, if not the cute therapist!

  6. The idea that parents can not/or will not supply their children with the basics of a three-ringed binder and notebook paper is to say the least astounding! Then again, I guess their idea is feed information to be tested on later, to prove the students learned something. Administration versus the teacher versus the parents... everybody in their own little world. I am glad I am homeschooled.

  7. This story not only intrigued me, but scared the crap outta me too! So, I asked "a friend who is a lawyer" specializing in Constitutional Law, what the implications of this might be... After reading the stories and posts, he laughed and said, "Wait till the get to the transmitting of children's images, lascivious or otherwise. The real question, though, were the observations made while the acts were being performed, or after the laptops were back on school property? It is only invasion of privacy if the former. The laptops were the propety of the school district, but ipso facto the property of the student while in his/her possesion, if the school gave their permission to take the laptop home."

My other observation... Cole? How come students need their teachers to hand out sheets with homework assignments on them? What ever happened to "Write this down.". I assume the students have notebooks, and the classrooms have blackboards. I do not think our teacher has handed out a single sheet of paper this entire year. He uses a laptop with big flat-panel screen, and a chalkboard to convey what he can not with words.

  8. I collect a lot of old movies, and a few older TV serials. If my set of "The Rifleman" was not on dvds I would probably have worn them out by now. As for first movie... I would have to say "You Are Not Alone", that let me know I was OK, and "L.I.E." that let me know there were stranger kids in this world than I.

  9. Since this article was expounded on in 2009, it would be nice to have an update from those "in-the-know".

As for those young people under the age the well-meaning people have determined is mature enough, who are having sexual relations with each other, beware! There lurks in all societies those that wish to impose their wills on others without accounting for their own actions.

It really surprises me this comes from Australia, where I had always thought of as the last vestige of personal freedoms.

Now, a message for those well-meaning people...

  10. Sorry for being late to the class...

I liked the piece, except for the falling cake... the cake never did anything to him! But, seriously, I once got so frustrated and depressed I told one of the most important people in my life to F***off. I knew I had hurt him, and it hurt me even more, knowing I had. He passed it off easily, but I still think about it quite often. I do not like hurting people, even bad people.

There are no really bad stories, only poorly told ones. This one was neither!
