  1. Piggles affected me far more than I was expecting, but not because of the entire story - which is, as per any Cole Parker, wonderful.

My dad was a scientist long before the days of specialisation. When I was eleven he designed a weighing bridge for a pig farmer. We had a caravan at the farm for six months, and I was there most weekends and all summer, while dad did his thing.

On the first day we were there I was 'given' a piglet I called Blackie. He was wonderful, and a real friend. Then one day we arrived at the farm and Blackie wasn't there... Enough said. 😭

  2. King of Shadows is a wonderful YA story, and well worth reading.

Nathan Field, a talented young American actor, arrives at the newly rebuilt Globe Theatre in London to play Puck in a revival of A Midsummer Night's Dream. As rehearsals begin, eerie echoes of the past begin to haunt Nat, and he falls sick with a mysterious sickness.

When he wakes, Nat finds himself in 1599, an actor at the original Globe - and his co-star is none other than the King of Shadows himself: William Shakespeare.

Nat's new life is full of excitement, danger and the passionate friendship that he has longed for since the tragic death of his parents. But why has he been sent to the past - and is he trapped there forever?

Susan Cooper wrote a series of books, the first of which was 'The Dark is Rising.' This was made into a rather lacklustre movie. They should have made King of Shadows,,,

  3. So... a long while ago (2012) I wrote a poem, recorded it, then completely forgot. Such is life in these days of vast digital storage and an idiot who didn't create an index.  However, stumbling across things you've done and have forgotten can be kinda fun.  :icon_geek:

The gap between here and the player below wasn't my idea.
