E.J.
While waiting, I downloaded a program through cnet that turns out to be the same program Colin suggested. The program works fine, though it is very, very slow. Something to watch out for.....while installing the program, it will try to change your default search engine and your home page. It will also try to add a tool bar to your browser. Even though I stopped the above actions, the installation program did add a dvd burner (which I didn't want) plus a program that directs me to download other software made by this company.....every time I get on line. It will take some time to get rid of this junk (kind of like uninstalling norton AV) Link to comment

Hmmm... when I installed it there were no extra programs installed and no browser plugin asking that I download other software. Did you download and install it from the publisher's site? DesDownunder
I use the free program Audacity to create my sound clips, and record the sound from YouTube videos as they play, by selecting "What you Hear" from the record input menu. This is a real time recording method, but is fine for short clips. Audacity has versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux. To save the whole YouTube video with sound and image I have used VDownLoader, (freeware) which can also save audio only according to its site, but I haven't tried that. Seems to be Windows only. VDownloader can download from several sites as well as YouTube according to its features list but again I have only used it for YouTube. Both of these programs are not always as stable as one would like, but they do generally work with little trouble. As a general rule in these types of programs, I don't let them change the associations to other files if the program installation offers the chance. In Windows it is a good idea to create a 'system restore point' before installing any software, so you can go back to the way things were if a program does not behave itself. You can never have enough audio or video programs, so I'll check out the other recommendations, when I get some free time. Good work everyone. Link to comment
