  1. The nature of Lawrence's sexuality comes out a lot more in the Director's Cut than in the released version. If any of you have not seen the Director's Cut I would recommend you do so. Nigel
  2. Sorry John, your right I did mean First Corinthians, I suppose I could have quoted 1 Corinthians 13:13 as well but that depends on the translation you are reading. I still have the King James which translates the Greek text as .. faith, hope and charity..., however, my Christian friend who is also a Greek Scholar advises me that it should read ... faith, hope and love.
  3. Chris, I hope you watched the Director's Cut version, the extra scenes (which add about 20 min) make it a much better film.
  4. Be careful Chris, the Irish claim him as one of their finest actors! Either way it does not matter he was one of the greatest presences on stage or screen. In 1960 I saw him playing Shylock at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre Stratford Upon Avon, it was a very powerful performance and a couple of years later when I played the same role in a school play I must admit I was highly influenced by it. Unfortunately I had neither the skill or the presence to carry it off. I think his reputation for drinking was somewhat over played. In the late1960s I was often in Sheba's and The Londoner, clubs in London that were often frequented by the theatrical set from the nearby theaters. O'Toole was frequently in, sometimes with Richard Burton, and I often got the impression that he was never quite as drunk as he made out. This was especially true when somebody tried to fleece him. Over the years I was able to see him in a number of productions. The one I liked best was his portrayal of King Magnus in the Apple Cart. He was a great actor and his death is a great loss to the stage and to film. .
  5. Unfortunately a large number of those who claim to be Christian (though their behavior does not support their claim) don't seem to know that the New Testament exists. At least that is my experience when they trap me in town a Saturday asking if I am saved. Every time I give them a quote in response to whatever bit of the Bible they are quoting at me they seem lost, I have found that Corinthians 13:4-8 is a total puzzlement to them. Nigel
  6. It will probably happen but you need to remember that the Indian concept of 'swift' can be very different from the Western concept of 'swift', my lawyer started a 'fast track' copyright case in India over unauthorized publication of one of my books. We are still awaiting a hearing after fifteen years.
  7. I love Freethinker's work but this has got to be one of his best.
  8. Double that, Chris you have outdone yourself with this one.
  9. Cynus, don't worry Chapter 3 is up to your normal standard, if not better. Keep it up, this is going to be a great story.
  10. That probably shows how much more economically efficient the Germans are. I think nearly every German kid I met was running a business of one sort or another, even if it was only collecting the used beer bottles and taking them back to the shops to get the deposits. When I was working at IBM in Boblingen there was a lad who was at the technical school in Stuttgart (close to the main railway station). He used to buy up English language papers as the news agents by the station and bring them back to Boblingen and resell them putting a DMark on the price of each. I think nearly all the English contractors bought copies.
  11. If anything it will probably set up a thriving business for some enterprising youngsters. Back in the late 80's I lived in a rural part of Germany and we only got our mail delivered on Monday and Friday but could pick it up from the post office in town any day about a five mile round trip. This was an experiment tried by the German Post office. The second week of the experiment a local lad knocked on my door and informed me that for 5 DM a week he would collect my post every for me, he got the job. He and two friends covered all the houses and apartments in the hamlet and most signed up. The boys went to the post office after school (the had to go into town for the high school) and picked up all our post, then delivered it when they got back to the village. It worked well whilst the experiment lasted but the Post Office found out they were actually losing business and people were paying to have stuff delivered by courier rather than post so they went back to normal deliveries.
  12. Why so lenient? Surely that is still one of the Capital Offenses to be found lurking in the dark side of the Common Law, there must be some point to building Wicker Men?
  13. Maybe that's why they wrote so much. "Sorry darling I just have to finish this chapter be up shortly."
  14. If you just want to web browse and word process I suggest you look at Linux, Firefox runs on it and Open Office is a very good word processor.
  15. No, everything is just as it should be, any human who thinks that he is intellectually superior to a cat is suffering from a fundamental error in thinking. Remember a man may own a dog, he serves a cat!
  16. Don't worry so long as you keep the standard of writing up to your norm we'll keep enjoying it.
  17. I understand from some of my friends who are into winter sports that a number of them intend to wear the rainbow badge on their uniforms at the Winter Olympics. It would be nice if some of them could get on the podium, though no doubt the TV people would use the ad blocker software that was used at the London Olympics to remove the badge from the images.
  18. Well it seems things are about to get worse for gays in Russia, if that is possible. The Kremlin has just announced that the Official News Agency RIA Novosti is being closed with immediate effect and it is being replaced by a new agency called Russia Today. The new agency is to be headed by Kislev, a strong ultra-conservative who has stated that the hearts of gay men should be burnt rather than used in transplants. RIA Novosti whilst an official body of the Russian Government had a reputation for being rather outspoken on some subjects including gay rights, which no doubt upset Putin. 19. It appears that Awesome Dude has been added to the list of Blocked Sites by Talk Talk. Due to a technical problem the at TalkTalk their Homesafe filter got switched on for my internet account. Suddenly I found that I could get to the Awesome Dude homepage but a lot of the authors pages were blocked and listed as being pornographic. Strangely enough it appears to have no problem letting me read Nifty! I suspect that as the UK major ISP share their filter list AD is blocked on most home computers that have a filtered feed.
  20. I can't wait to see where this story is going to go, have just read chapter one and can only say I am hooked. Cynus has the ability to pull you into a story in a way that makes it come alive for you as you are reading it. Just hope it is being posted twice a week don't think I can wait for the next dose till next Saturday.
  21. He was a most remarkable man, I met him twice, very briefly. The first time was in London when he was on a visit, he stopped and spoke with people in the crowd, I was wearing the Lambda badge and he asked me about it. A couple of years later I had to go to Jo'berg on a consultancy assignment, on the last Saturday of my stay I was in a market in Jo'berg buying some Township Art before I flew back to London. There was suddenly quite an excitement in the market and there was Mandela walking through the crowd. When he got close he came over and spoke to me and asked if I remembered him. I've heard from other people who met him that he had this knack of being able to remember people who he had only met briefly some time before. The thing was that both times I met him he was able to make me feel that I was the important person in the conversation, not him.
  22. Thanks, there are three file extensions present on the backup CDs ".G1Z", ".G6Z" and ".G7Z" I have determined that the G1Z files contain a listing of the files in a directory, these are not encrypted. For each G1Z file there is a G6Z and a G7Z file, I suspect the G6Z file records the offset data for the position of the file in the G7Z file, though can't be sure of this, however, its length seems to be directly proportional to the number of files listed in the G1Z file. If I am correct on that assumption the G7Z file contains the actual data.
  23. It has just been reported on BBC News that Nelson Mandela had died. Although he is most widely known for his role in the ending of Apartheid in South Africa it should be remembered he also played a role in the establishment of the Constitution which embedded within it the anti-discriminatory principles that has given rise to the open and free Gay Society that is to be found in South Africa. A great man has died and a man who lead the way in Africa in showing that non-discrimination applied across the board.
  24. There is another aspect of this as well, which is often overlooked, a teenage friend (he is 19) got a lot of abusive postings to his accounts after he broke up with his girlfriend. When I mentioned to him that he did not seem very upset by these his response was "hey, at least they're not ignoring me." It seems that the worse thing for a teenager is no have nobody posting comments to your pages. If somebody appears to be cyberbullying you it means you are an interesting person who is worth bullying!
