  1. I know this is not related to AwesomeDude, but I'm starting to get desperate. I'm in the middle of a long distance relationship right now, and the only way we can currently speak to each other is through Facebook Messenger.(Yes, we have explored all other options. For one reason or another, they don't work) However, my facebook messenger keeps on disconnecting for sometimes as much as five minutes at a time. Normally this is just a mild aggravation, but today in the middle of a very important conversation in which my boyfriend had only ten minutes to talk to me, it disconnected for the full five minutes. I don't understand why it's disconnecting. I've checked for viruses, spyware, all of the usual suspects. My internet connection works fine, and I've tried running other things at the same time facebook is disconnected in order to see if it is an overall connection issue and everything works. Java is updated... I'm at a loss as to what to try next, and it's really starting to frustrate me. I'm hoping that someone in the community has some insight as to how to proceed. We would appreciate any help you can offer.
  2. I had the opportunity to beta read this one... and I talked about it nonstop for three days...
  3. Something I said to someone recently that I feel fits in with this conversation: Sex is about the orgasm, the release. Making love is about the expression of emotion. In general, if I'm including sex into a romantic story, I do everything I can to make sure it is "making love". I only use "sex" when I need to establish the fact that it is rooted in lust not love... These are tools, like everything, and as Cole just said, "Let the story dictate".
  4. i was given the honor of reading this before it was posted here... This is one of the most emotional pieces I have ever read, and I loved every minute of it, even the negative emotions that our writer friends made me feel... phenomenally well done.
  5. THANK YOU!!! Yes, this is definitely it. I knew it was on AwesomeDude, but I couldn't for the life of me find it...
  6. The story starts off at a nudist party near Berkeley University. The protagonist and his roommate are attending for the first time since they became legal adults, though they had gone several times before they were legal. While they're there, the protagonist ends up getting in the pool and meeting a highschool boy that he falls in love with. They're only a few years apart, but the story focuses a lot around how the protagonist is worried about their age difference and how he is dating someone below the legal age... Anyone know what I'm talking about? I know that my boyfriend would really enjoy it, and I wanted to give him the link but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
  7. There's more coming, my friends... And trust me, it's awesome.
  8. Wow... The emotions that Lucien was going through in this story were very well captured, and I enjoyed experiencing every single one. This is one of the best reads I've had in a long time, and I was completely connected to Lucien throughout the whole ride.
  9. Geesh... Okay, done trying with this one.
  10. "Take Me To Church" My lover's got humour She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval I should've worshipped her sooner If the heavens ever did speak She's the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week 'We were born sick, ' you heard them say it My Church offers no absolutes She tells me, 'Worship in the bedroom.' The only heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you— I was born sick, But I love it Command me to be well Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. [Chorus 2x:] Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight To keep the Goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice Drain the whole sea Get something shiny Something meaty for the main course That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work [Chorus 2x:] Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Good God, let me give you my life No Masters or Kings When the Ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then I am Human Only then I am Clean Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. [Chorus 2x:] Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Good God, let me give you my life

  12. TO A POET A THOUSAND YEARS HENCE by: James Elroy Flecker WHO am dead a thousand years, And wrote this sweet archaic song, Send you my words for messengers The way I shall not pass along. I care not if you bridge the seas, Or ride secure the cruel sky, Or build consummate palaces Of metal or of masonry. But have you wine and music still, And statues and a bright-eyed love, And foolish thoughts of good and ill, And prayers to them who sit above? How shall we conquer? Like a wind That falls at eve our fancies blow, And old Mæonides the blind Said it three thousand years ago. O friend unseen, unborn, unknown, Student of our sweet English tongue, Read out my words at night, alone: I was a poet, I was young. Since I can never see your face, And never shake you by the hand, I send my soul through time and space To greet you. You will understand.
  13. http://www.awesomedude.com/ryan-bartlett/the-hunting-accident/the-hunting-accident.htm What an ending! I'll just say that is is another brilliant addition to the SS community, and it's fun... in a bit of a morbid way. Enjoy!
  14. This was my debut story here at AwesomeDude, and my very first short story I ever wrote, and yes, it was part of Halloween 2013. I'm glad that you all enjoyed it.
  15. Also, I'm sure that the authors who have participated will be more than happy to give you some insight into their own stories/characters if you find a "springboard" that you want to use. Ryan and I have been conversing at length about his characters as I intend to use some of them in two other SS stories I have planned, and I think that the stories are going to turn out much better because of that collaboration. Dabeagle consulted with me a lot on Strays, and I know that it turned out better because of his input.
  16. I loved this one. Absolutely adored it. Didn't think I could identify with Alec more than I already did.
  17. I know some people who celebrate Guy Fawkes day actually, so maybe we're not as far off as you think.
  18. Happy Thanksgiving! I normally don't celebrate, but I actually have this year off from work. I'm looking forward to the holiday, and already started it off well. Love and best wishes to all of you. Keep up the good fight! Oh, and definitely check out the link. It's a good thing to be aware of.
  19. There's more coming too... I have three ideas floating about in my head for new ones, and we'll see if any of them take.
  20. It already has... I've been conspiring for the last half hour...
  21. I fell every bit as in love with Robin as you did, and I love this story, absolutely adore it actually. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in the future... I might even look into delving deeper into Sanitaria springs myself... after all, I do have a foothold in Binghamton. Great job, Ryan. I enjoyed this story a lot.
  22. From the few times I've experienced it, I'd say tactfully, but not necessarily polite.
