  1. Let us please have a moment of silence because of the results of the election here in the U.S.. With Trump at President and the Republicans controlling the congress, I believe the next four years are bound to be an unmitigated disaster. I envision that by the time Trumps term is over, the country may well have devolved to the point of near barbarism. I also anticipate that relations with our allies will have been strained to near breaking. I'm sure Russia and Putin are the only ones happy about these results. Way to go America. You've set the gun to your head. I wonder how long it's going to take for the trigger to get pulled.
  2. Well, I've been withholding my comments because, as the proofreader/Editor, I had the privilege of reading this in its entirety long before the rest. Didn't seem fair to tease everyone. LOL What I liked most about the story was the variety of situations; some humorous, some tense, a little excitement, and the inevitable frustration when seeing two boys trying to get a handle on their feelings and desires, and being frustrated by the circumstances which cropped up to thwart them. Then there were the little side trips we took while having conversations with older gay men which opened our characters' eyes to the complexity of life in the gay world. As usual, Chris created characters we could love and hate, sympathize with, shake our heads at, cheer for, jeer at, and, well, he gave us a complex community of people whose interactions were real and entertaining. For those on the fence about whether to give this story a try, rest assured your time will not be wasted. Just sayin', LOL Addym
  3. A fine little piece. Loved the unexpected ending. No spoiler here, read it yourself.
  4. Here, here. Or should that be hear, hear? Anyway, I agree with Larkin.
  5. Okay, I freely admit it, I'm thrilled...I made Dude's Picks. And this is the only story I've posted here. Amazing. I will say this, however...I've felt guilty about that one story only bit, so I'm working on a multi-chapter story specifically for AD. It's a fantasy, you know, swords, sorcery, that sort of thing. I has a gay undertone, fer shur. LOL. Let's see, I'm on chapter 4 so far, and I can't begin to tell you how far this will go. I'll just write until it ends. LOL. Don't expect anything over ten chapters though. I save my sagas for print material. If I'm gonna write something that long, I want to get paid for it. Thanks, Nigel, for rereading it, and still liking it. Honestly, I sit down with it once a year during the holidays. I think I done pretty good too. LMAO. (And no, I did not break my arm patting myself on the back)
  6. Just our of curiosity, have any of you ever read the Kinsey Report. It was a study done in the 50's. It's long and very dry, but I was really, Really, REALLY bored one year. There were actually two of them, one in 1948 and another in '53. Anyway, interesting stats. Very detailed. All these later studies could have been compiled from Kinsey's report because the numbers are pretty much the same. LOL. Anyway, just thought you'd like to know.
  7. Hope there's follow-up from the lad. That was remarkable.
  8. George Takei posted the link for this article today. Thought it'd be interesting to see if this succeeds. http://mic.com/articles/137914/anonymous-just-declared-war-on-donald-trump-with-massive-cyberattack?utm_source=policymicFB&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=WHFacebook&utm_content=inf_10_285_2&tse_id=INF_47346b504f904bf79eed25f668fd3004#.TEnZGoIo9
  9. Heard on the late news last night that the mother was likely to be charged with child endangerment. Let's see, that would be a felony, and if convicted, she'd lose her 'god given' right to own firearms.
  10. As it happens, Cole, I agree with you completely. The Italian boy had the stronger audition too, in my opinion. Who can figure out the judges. LOL.
  11. Because I enjoy young voices raised in song, I can't help sharing noteworthy performances. This comes from The Voice Kids, Germany, 2016. This comes from the battle round where the judge has to choose one among the three performers to move on. That being said, it is all about the three singers, so there are no backup vocals. And yet, these three sound like a choir when their voices are raised as one. Now, there's a lot of preliminary background, but if you skip ahead to the 7 minute mark, you will get to hear just the performance. As a spoiler alert, don't stop at the end of the song because there is an encore demanded by the audience, and it's worth hearing. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3vwgki_matteo-markus-claudia-matteo-the-prayer-the-voice-kids-germany-battles-1-4-3-20166-hd_music
  12. Allow me to say, Chris, that I've learned from my blond daughter that there is no such thing as being unfair to blonds. Recent decisions in her life prove that out. But more than that, if you want to hear great blond jokes, my daughter is the one to see, she knows them all, I think. LOL
  13. Because I love a good laugh, I'll share this with you who also like a bit of levity in your day. Dear Ma and Pa: I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled. I was restless at first because you get to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there’s warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again. It’s no wonder these city boys can’t walk much. We go on “route marches,” which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it’s not my place to tell him different. A “route march” is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don’t bother you none. This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don’t know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don’t move, and it ain’t shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don’t even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes. Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain’t like fighting with that ole bull at home. I’m about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake . I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I’m only 5’6″ and 130 pounds and he’s 6’8″ and near 300 pounds dry. Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in. Your loving daughter, Alice
  14. If there is one thing I'm a sucker for, it's a teenage overachiever. Here is an article and TedX video about a 15 year old who has developed a 100% accurate test for the detection of early stage pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancers...early enough that treatments can be undertaken to irradicate them. And most amazing of all, the boy is not some genius attending medical school. Go ahead, watch, and be amazed. The kid, Jack, is awesome. http://dailyhealthpost.com/jack-andraka-15-year-old-invents-pancreatic-cancer-test/
  15. Okay, if this doesn't make you at least chuckle...check your pulse. I was eating breakfast with my 10 year old granddaughter and I asked her, "What day is tomorrow?". Without skipping a beat she said, "It's Presidents Day!" She's smart, so I asked her, "What does Presidents Day mean?". I was waiting for something about Obama, Bush, or Clinton, etc. She replied, "Presidents Day is when the President steps out of the White House and if he sees his shadow, we have another year of bullshit." You know, it hurts when hot coffee spurts out your nose. Just sayin'......
  16. The following is a letter I saw posted online today. No explanation needed. Nate, I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I've known you were gay since you were six. I've loved you since you were born. -Dad P.S. Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.
  17. I think this series by Troye will be a big hit. I certainly enjoyed his talk. The only thing I noticed that made me grin is that the boy talks so fast. LOL. I suppose it has the advantage of allowing him to get in a lot of information in a much shorter timeframe, but it's hard for someone like me who listens more slowly. LMAO. I had a sister in law from the Boston area and she talked even faster than Troye and I soon learned that I had to have conversations with her in person so I could see her lips moving because it helped immensely, I didn't have to keep asking her to repeat herself. Fortunately Troye isn't that fast a speaker. On the other side of the coin, his speach pattern will force people to really listen to what he's saying for fear that they might miss something. Anyway, way to go Troye. Looking forward to seeing what else he has to say in his series.
  18. Don't look for this in today's schools, at least in the U.S. (I'll not state an opinion of other countries, except to say that I hope they have more sense than to teach the mathematical nonsense that is passing itself off as intelligent education.) Anyway, I thought this fascinating, since my major career in life was as, first, an operator of a US Navy Submarine reactor, and second, as a radiation protection technician and later instructor in the commercial nuclear industry, made heavy use of mathematics of many disciplines. - - - - - - - - - - - This Long Lost Drawing From Nikola Tesla Reveals A Genius Map For MultiplicationA recently discovered set of drawings by Nikola Tesla reveals an incredible multiplication "map" that contains all numbers in a simple system. The sketches were hidden in a small trunk with drawings and manuscripts for hand-held devices and free-energy systems. They had notes scrawled all over many of them. Abe Zucca, a Phoenix Artist and discoverer of the trunk, thinks they were made during his final years. Zucca made copies of the images and showed them to various mathematicians and thinkers. The most interesting was his map to multiplication. "This device allows us to see numbers as patterns, the formation of prime numbers, twin primes, Highly composite numbers, multiplication and division, as well as few other systems, I imagine, that are yet to be discovered." The diagram is intuitive and easy to use. It allows learners and students everywhere to see how numbers work together in a spiral with 12 positions. Tesla once said: "If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have the key to the universe."
  19. I don't often get something new from my Facebook 'subscription' to the Isaac Asimov Facebook channel, but this one appeared today and I thought it fascinating. We who are scifi fanatics know his works and know what a remarkable visionary he was. Well, here's yet another example of his ability to look into the haze of the future and return to us with ideas of what we will become. This snippet of article delineates things he said in 1964. Hope you enjoy the look into a genius. http://www.openculture.com/2013/08/isaac-asimovs-1964-predictions-about-2014.html
  20. Ah, how true, Chris. But we can be like those dedicated Elvis fans who have, for decades, believed that the song-meister had not truly left that building forever, but would return to continue bedazzling us with his remarkable music. So, though we may not be screaming girls and women, fainting at the very sight of him, I think we can all admit that there will be a small part of each of us that hopes James will, unlike Elvis, return to the scene of this remarkable triumph and continue to elicite sighs from his fans as his story continues to unfold. Here's to wishes.
  21. Kudos to James. I'm a scifi/fantasy junky, as my friend Chris James can attest. This piece is a fine piece of work, and James is to be given a huge pat on the back for how he approached this opening salvo into what I hope will become available, either here or in print (ink or electronic). I agree with Chris BTW that this is certainly reminiscent of Jack Campbell's writing.
  22. Hi there, guys. So, I've always loved Cindy Lauper's song, Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Now, here comes this guy Chase and moves it from a major key to a minor one. OMG, how it changes the feel of the song. His version is now up there right alongside Cindy's. Hope you enjoy it. Okay, I'm out of here. I'm gonna go watch some of his other videos to see if they are just as good.
  23. You won't see something like this at your local Ikea, or any other modern furniture store. This piece was built in the late 18th century by Abraham and David Roentgen. It was owned by King Frederick William II. Now, I'm a woodworker and really enjoy making furniture. This, however, is not something even my wildest imaginings could have conceived of, let alone built. I was slightly disappointed when they showed a couple of the inner workings. This is a piece that I prefer to think of as PFM. (For those unfamiliar with the anagram, it's one we who operated and maintained the nuclear reactors of US Naval Subs would use when asked by the lay public to explain how our reactors worked. We would always answer with that anagram, which stands for Pure Fucking Magic.) Well, judge for yourself. I give to you the Roentgens' Berlin Secretary Cabinet
  24. double wow. One for the subject matter...one for the professor. LOL.
