It's cool to have one of the "locals" furnish the name for Mrs. O'Reilly's cat.  I suppose there is scant likelihood of anyone ever naming their cat Rutabaga.

Probably just as well not to know more detail about Donny's rite.

I think Merkin said her name has a rhyme association with ‘grimalkin’, one of the witches familiars in the Scottish Play. I do know she covers the holes in my plots🙀.

Acat called Rutabaga? Maybe not but I can imagine a cat being named Turnip. When I was three, we got a kitten we called Kidney - which apparently stemmed from my mispronunciation of ‘kitteny’

Donny can’t tell us anything about the rite his sisters made him attend. I think his memory is blocked.

How about 'Swede' for a big male tomcat?  With battered ears, of course.

Donny doesn't seem to be the brightest or most vocal of our hero's friends.  Perhaps whatever the ritual was, it embarrassed him.  I like to think that that's the case; it sets my imagination free.
