  1. Walmart told him not to. That's who really runs Arkansas.
  2. Arkansas just passed their bill and they Governor is expected to sign it. It's just so petty and spiteful. OK- go ahead and get married. You won't be able to live here.
  3. Best advertisement for clothes I've ever seen. Yikes.
  4. I've been thinking. I've seen a lot of stories about kids with delayed puberty and the angst that goes with it. There is the other side of the coin- those of us that went through it early. It is a whole different set of headaches.
  5. We are seeing a backlash to the gay marriage wins all over the country. This isn't the first "religious freedom" law to pass but it is the ugliest in its language. I saw a facebook posting stating that all of the big GenCon events (a giant sci-fi convention) would be moved out of state or canceled. Similar moves are underway with companies that don't want to expose their employees or customers to discrimination. This whole mess is headed for the supreme court.
  6. >>So there’s this–an app called "Clean Reader" that purports to “scrub” books of offensive terms. What's left and why would it be interesting? I can remember reading hundreds of pages just to get to the icky part that I found fascinating.
  7. Isn't this how bad sci-fi gets started???
  8. Wow- Freethinker- coming from you, that's awesome. < purrs really loud! Cole- you always get a early screening.
  9. The last piece of my 70s Trilogy posted here tonight. I suggest that it be read in order. It makes more sense that way. That 70s Trilogy the Place in Between Getting to The Happily Ever After Nightfall <<new I hope that those of us of a certain age enjoy it. But anyone who ever had a heart they wouldn't turn around and break it and anyone who ever played a part They wouldn't turn around and hate it -Lou Reed
  10. Cruz isn't going anywhere. He has all the tact of an avalanche. It's Scott Walker that should concern you. If he can bust unions in a blue state, the guy has got super-powers.
  11. When Royal Oak was sunk Oct. 1939, she had many midshipmen aboard. Over 100 Boy Seamen were killed- not yet 18 years old, the largest ever such loss in a single Royal Navy action.
  12. Colin- The boys need this to run that old Dos game: DOSBox
  13. Gimp is like an open-source version of Adobe PhotoShop. As far as I know the best and the safest place to download software is at Sourceforge All of the best open source projects are hosted there. Notepad++, Crimson Editor, ProjectLibre- it's all there.
  14. This is something that people don't get about addiction. It takes a lot of 12 step meetings and talking to tons of recovering addicts. It is very subtle and simple but hard to grasp about addiction. Q: What do you get when an addict goes cold turkey? A: An addict without drugs. Addiction is about a LOT MORE than drugs and/or booze. Tons and tons have been written on the subject. There are various theories, many treatments but no one really has a "cure". When it is all said and done, the addict himself has to decide that they are sick of addiction, and want to kick bad enough to do what is necessary. Nothing else works. Not civil commitment, forced treatment or even jail. If I knew what makes that difference, I could become a billionaire and win a Nobel.
  15. Regarding Chapter 4- I think Jado might find there more to kicking weed and other drugs than just giving it up. If there wasn't, rehabs would go out of business in short order.
  16. Bad Boy Gone Good is getting interesting. Way to go Colin!
  17. You know, I'm beginning to think that we need a special projects team that can deploy in secret and do away with little problems like this. I have the skills. Just need the budget. Email me for resume.
  18. Makes plenty of sense to me. You should get out of those clothes immediately and rinse the affected area. Don't give the chemical time to do its work. It will dissolve the clothes. They are organic and so are you!
  19. Here's another one- Brandon de Wilde (1942-72) played the little boy in Shane and was Admiral Torrey's (John Wayne) estranged son in In Harm's Way- where I fell for him. It's hard to find a good picture of him. de Wilde died tragically very young in a car accident at 30.
  20. A lot of BRATs (military kids) go through the constant moving and root-less-ness. { BRAT isn't a term of derision. It stands for Born, Raised And Transferred. We are Uncle Sam's misguided children LOL. } When you are somewhere 3, 6, 9 months tops, you get to where you don't even try to make friends because it hurts too much to leave them. I was really young but my brother was junior high age. He hated it. I can see how it would be much, much worse for a deaf kid. In college I met a young guy whose dad was on the fast track to general in the "air farce". He was absolutely terrified of making friends because as soon as he did they were always off to the next posting. We had to let him know- you're a civilian! Now you get to decide who you keep as friends and when you move! It must have sucked to live that way all through high school. Writers take note- there is ample room for drama in this area and not much written.
  21. Hunter was before my time. My crushes... Leif Garrett... wow. I would have also like to have seen much, much more of Jacky Earl Haley. Garrett did the alcohol and tattoos thing to death and Haley ended up being Freddie Krueger. Ewww. As fate is a weird, weird thing, I ended up aging better than either of them.
  22. There you guys go again sending me off on a dictionary search. I felt bad for the Scott in this story. His delayed puberty was almost as problematic as my early one. Maybe puberty is like a hurricane. It's just going to create havoc whenever it arrives.
