In Canada we also do Black Friday…when are American retailers going to jump on the Boxing Day bandwagon (day after Xmas)?

It's one judge's gift and will only last till the appeals start, if it goes the same way as so many other states. Sadly, the will to discriminate remains, even if it's not legal...

Religious intolerance will never fade away. It might be redirected onto some other victim group, but that's about it.

If you want a truly funny joke, at least to me, here is one. And this really is true.
Whenever a letter is returned unopened to the post office it requires an official 'return to sender' endorsement which is supposed to give the reason for return. Options available are refused, moved address unknown, deceased, forwarding expired, and no such address.
Several times per week, for a couple of years, we were at a loss as to how to endorse it when mail for patients was returned to us by the local hospital. The reason for that was a wit in their mailroom was sending it back to us with inked comments like "checked out, no longer with us, moved on, gone to a better place".

Yes, very amusing…Bart (former postal worker)
BTW, none of us would have opened the first letter since it's against the law. And yes, I do know it was a joke.

She doesn't listen to me anyway. She did make me pay though. I was forced out of bed six times between 1:00 a.m. and 6:30 due to her revenge tactics...

Truly wonderful. I couldn't stop reading (my cat is really annoyed now).

The words 'handicapped' and 'challenged' probably more accurately deal with people with impairments of some sort. One might be justified in saying that I am hetero-sexually challenged as opposed to disabled.
I suspect the descriptive word boxes we accept or choose about ourselves has much more to do with how much we wish to fit in with others than with the representative accuracy of the words themselves.

This stupidity is very much political correctness that's gone too far, sort of like banning Xmas trees in public places just in case others are offended, while the vast majority of those same 'others' are offended that they cannot see the pretty trees as well as the implication that they are so vulnerable and fragile that they need protection.

Des, your Ken is obviously totally self absorbed.

A pox on all writers, I say. They are nothing but trouble for hardworking cleaning crews. Only books without anything scribbled in them are good grammatically, in regard to points of view, and spelling. Admittedly though, they are boring as hell.
Most usually I apologize to authors for pointing out problem areas, assuming, for the most par,t that I'm not reading things correctly...it sounds as if not all proofers or editors are that 'nice'. (Not that I'm nice)

Lovely 'short' story indeed.
Being lactose intolerant (only in the sense that I react to it badly, not that I don't indulge myself) I try to stay away from poutine as I can't make it myself and can't risk it away from home; but gravy on fries (chips for you Aussies and Brits) is wonderful at worst, right up to sheer bliss.

And now we know the real reason for the Brotherhood wearing those long white gowns and masks and lighting smoking fires all around the Deep South. (It's a joke, so don't go getting all offended on me, please.)

Then there are the sun lovers, as well as those bronzed sons of Australia who manage to look hot, hot, hot, all year long.
Particularly with that bleached blond shaggy surfer dude hair and Speedos one size too small to contain it all.

On a slightly different note, I was always referred to as a smartass, not smart ass. I do believe there is a different nuance, not that I care to be either.

HandilyI wonder, did that guy show up for the exam?

As I posted in another location in these forums, I tried to visit Jack Scribe, but serious medical issues for me intervened and obviously even more serious issues for Jack did the same, as he passed away before we could meet. I know that Jack managed to visit Ruwen, in Berlin, on one of his adventurous vacations.
I'd love to visit with various authors and since I like to drive a lot, that may yet happen. Heck, I've geocached all the way to Colorado looking for camo boxes and log books; I think live writers would be oodles more fun.

I don't plan on meeting any more authors. Over the past few years I've met three authors, Jamie, Deweywriter, and Myr. Two of those three have become MIA.
You make it sound like you blame yourself for them going astray. Or do you mean the heartache is too much to take?

Despite the hour growing later and later, I couldn't stop reading. Well done!

If you haven't yet checked out Marcus McNally's latest serial, you should check it out at crvboy.org
Like a fine wine, it is a pleasure to sip, and if you like good food, his descriptions of meals will make you drool. It's by no means a lusty romp, but rather an expertly crafted 'history' of the protagonists' families and their relationships. I look forward to each new chapter on Saturdays.

Geez Grant, you could at least live in a warmer spot in Canada. I think only Fort McMurray, Winnipeg and Edmonton are worse in winter.
Some may find it interesting that the start of spring in Australia does NOT coincide with the start of autumn up here. Nor vice versa. I can't really understand that as I thought they are both tied to the sun being over the Equator for the start dates. Maybe they've modified reality politically, just like daylight savings time gives us more daylight in each 24 hour period…NOT!

I came to this story late, but am glad of the outcome and possible new system to help similar kids in future. Kudos
