Came late to the party...but made it, nonetheless. Just had a chance to read Chapter One and the emotion-packed synoposis of Raymond's earlier family life. Killing off child characters is a tough call, but it is part of life. I say 'eff' the flames. Look forward to continuing the story. BTW - not to be drippy, but it's Farrah Fawcett, not Faucet. Jack

3.0 The cleverness of Bo and references to his magic are very intrigung. Did he arrive in Todd's life on purpose to prevent a suicide attempt? Is ESP involved? Is Bo some sort of representative from a higher force? Looking into Bo's eyes, Todd sees flecks of gold amongst a field of green...or something like that. Is that just a reflection or does this portray a deeper meaning of Bo's magic? I was surprised to find out Todd is merely 29 years old. I think the description of the mythical town in Chapter One and the mention of 60 years made me originally think of Todd as much older. Nice pace. Jack

I understood the melancholy of Todd as he tossed down a few. I assume that the following is a clue to the thoughts about suicide: But the gin was loosening him up, and the fact that he had no one better to talk to only strengthened the resolve of his recent decision. Went right over my head. Even with the mention later in the chapter of 30 Percocen tablets , I didn't consider that Todd was suicidal. Jack

Most interesting premise of a story for this exercise. I like the way Todd's thoughts about his earlier moments with Bo were played out in Chapter 2.0. My confusion came from dialogue and emotional expressions where two characters shared one paragraph. I was also puzzled by a point in Ch. 1.0 where it appears that Todd is 60 y.o. and is dying. I don't think that was what was meant to be implied...but this is what I got from it. Look forward to more. I begrudgingly am making comments because earlier emails of last year were never answered. This story was originally brought to my attention by fellow author DesDownunder in a private author/editor's forum, saying it is "a very interesting and enjoyable read with some good writing on a different slant on the college scene". The Pecman followed up with the comment, "Absolutely terrific story...". I enthusiastically concur. Duncan Ryder is the author and this story is his first effort in writing a novella with a gay theme. Outstanding read so far. I came across this story by a recommendation and was spellbound from the first page. Special Forces is a co-authored work of miltary gay erotic fiction by two men: Marquesate (a Scottsman) and Vashtan (a German who now lives in London). The first of three cycles has been finished: Soldiers (1980 - 1989), and the authors have been working on the second cycle: Mercenaries (1990 - 1997). This section currently contains three chapters that takes the reader up to 1991. It appears that the two authors post a long chapter each month. Here is a little preview I copied from their site: It is the epic story of a Scottish SAS soldier and a Soviet spetsnaz soldier. I don't remember exactly what I was up to at the age of 12. Probably horny, confused and in complete denial. This is a beautiful coming of age moment for the two young men-to-be. (I should point out that my tastes are drawn to adult themes). One question: Coupe is written in a very breezy first person style...with amusing sidebar editorial comments from the character to the reader. Is this his style in all the stories? Jack

This is a great topic. However, usually the author is so withdrawn that emails are usually not returned. David Buffet, for example. I loved Alpha Male and wondered after reading it a second time why the writing stopped. I know one excellent author, Evan Bradley, who is so busy with his real job that writing has taken a back seat. Same situation with the superb writer, John Yager. Another, who I will not name, has serious issues with his wife concerning the man's bi-sexuality. Others, I think, give up when the feedback dwindles. Readers can be a fickle lot. Jack

I stumbled across the Shades of Gray blog yesterday and found the style of writing very creative. http://shadesofgray.typepad.com/shades_of_gray/. His slice-of-life vignettes and stream of conscious entries intrigue me. A blog with dialogue. Go figure. I know absolutely nothing of the guy - Ethan Gray - other than he lives in Manhattan. Speaking of blogs, I also want to second Cole Parker's recommendation of Terry Audette's blog on his site: http://www.mygaystories.com/Blog.htm. The sense of humor is over the top. Terry's two continuing stories - The Good Doctor and Protecting David - are still fresh. I always look forward to a new chapter. Jack
