Cole Parker
I've seen no mention of this story and there should be! Alan has never disappointed and doesn't this time, either. Lavender is a compelling story and five chapters in already. Read it! https://awesomedude.com/alan_dwight/lavender/index.htm C Link to comment
Oliver
You're absolutely right, Cole! While reading i sometimes forget the time it plays in, but the anxiety in those years about "being a homosexual" gets you when you realise the story plays in the 1950's. Link to comment
Cole Parker
I was a teenager back then, as was Alan. Yes, it was a vastly different world. C Link to comment
Nigel Gordon
It does give a great sense of the time it is set in. Looking back at those days from now it is somewhat difficult at times to remember what life was like. Link to comment
Cole Parker
I found it interesting that Eisenhower was being seduced by both political parties. I didn't remember that at all. Of course, I wasn't even 12 yet, and had no interest at all in politics at the time. C Link to comment
Alan Dwight
Thank you all for writing. Yes, Cole, I remember the wooing of Ike by both parties. He was actually the first President I actually saw and I wore his buttons. Of course, I was not at all aware at the time of the Lavender Scare or of Ike's signing the order. Keep reading. Cole Parker
Yes, the buttons. Everyone was wearing them: I Like Ike! C Link to comment
Alan Dwight
I had a straw hat on which I put "I Like Ike" with friction tape. Again, thank you all for writing. Link to comment
