  1. I remember this story. It's by Driver, and not only is it a scary Hallowe'en story that will stick with you forever, it also builds on his well-known themes of community, family, and personal commitment.
  2. Hi, John. Are you interested in a story for Valentine's Day, upcoming, or is it too late for you to consider it? I have a "refreshed" story I derived from a longer version that appeared on AD back in 2010. This one is called "Jesse's Valentine" and runs a little over 3400 words. If you don't have room for it I will certainly understand. My problem is I don't see any way to attach it as a Word .doc to your new writetome.net message system. Plus the system wouldn't send this text on to you. Please advise if there is another way to get a .doc file to you. I stand in awe and admiration at all you have done to pull AD back from the brink and into an accessible site again. Sincerely, James Merkin.
  3. Solid and Moving, James. I've seen that dog, and you got it right. Best wishes. Merkin
  4. Hear, hear! John's selections have been really geat and a nice trip down memory lane.
  5. Cole is so good at getting us into totally believable settings and circumstances. I'm beginning to think he has lived in all fifty U.S. States.
  6. If you bend the rules a little bit you should be able to spread threm.
  7. I tackled quite a few of them, Root, before I caught on that this series is basically a character-driven soap opera more about who hates/loves/worships/angers its central character Scarpetta than it is about crime solving. The forensic factfinding is authentic and informative but the reader is often ahead of the pathologist in figuring out whodonit.
  8. Amazing story. Such heartbreak. Such redemption.
  9. I'm very glad to see the Links back and fully operational. Thanks to all of you lurking behind the scenes who are making this site work.
  10. This just gets better and better. It’s up to Chapter 10, and it is truly inspirational, a perfect counterpoint to the shouting and name calling and general nastiness our culture seems to have become. Whether or not you can identify with this Montana farm-boy and his Harvard boyfriend, what is on offer here is a glimpse of what life could be like if only we could give it our best effort.
  11. Joyful, amazed, grateful...words fail me. Thanks to all who pitched and rescued AD!
  12. The older twin is going to have a lot of fun with this.
  13. Extraordinary. Very moving.
  14. Thanks for the tip, vwl. A very worthwhile read with more to come.
  15. May each and every one of us find a measue of inner peace.
  16. Ha ha ha ha. Wonderful. Glad your polyglot gibber won't besmirch our American patois.
  17. l kinda like groin-to-face as a medical term, suits many doctors I've encountered. Those pouchy bloomers seem a bit optimistic, don't you think?
  18. ‘Bout time, Cole, for more Christmas verse, Get out your dictionary and begin to curse For nothing’s so hard as finding new rhymes To words like Rudolph and holiday pines. We’re counting on you for seasonal gaff So we can seize a rare chance to laugh And have fun with your insightful lines Amid the chaos of these perilous times. James
  19. I've been hoping to see more based on this tantalizing story teaser, Jason. Glacier Bay seems like a great unifying theme and I am looking forward to the stories showing up on AD.
  20. Could Corryong be an Aussie version of Carry On? Would seem to fit.
  21. Woah! Wait, wait, what's this, Cole? That's a dirty trick, in more ways than one.
  22. There's a whole passel of Cole's characters I'd love to know more about. Sigh.
  23. Thanks for the link, Joe. This tale is still as fresh as ever. James
  24. Excellent news! Will the procedure for submitting new stories remain the same as before? James
  25. Hoping some further news concerning the future for AD will appear here soon. James
