Cole is so good at getting us into totally believable settings and circumstances. I'm beginning to think he has lived in all fifty U.S. States.

If you bend the rules a little bit you should be able to spread threm.

I tackled quite a few of them, Root, before I caught on that this series is basically a character-driven soap opera more about who hates/loves/worships/angers its central character Scarpetta than it is about crime solving. The forensic factfinding is authentic and informative but the reader is often ahead of the pathologist in figuring out whodonit.

Amazing story. Such heartbreak. Such redemption.

This just gets better and better. It’s up to Chapter 10, and it is truly inspirational, a perfect counterpoint to the shouting and name calling and general nastiness our culture seems to have become. Whether or not you can identify with this Montana farm-boy and his Harvard boyfriend, what is on offer here is a glimpse of what life could be like if only we could give it our best effort.

As a kid growing up in Pennsylvania I was surrounded by locales with names that would make any fifth-grader dissolve in laughter to the dismay of our teachers. Pennsylvania still has townships with names like Blue Ball, Bird-In-Hand, and Intercourse. The latter was guaranteed to create havoc for at least ten minutes in any classroom. We weren’t yet worldly enough to recognize the rich lode of foreign place names like Bangkok.
