  1. It no longer means anything, Codey. It roughly followed the flagging of the old days. Gay, bi, top, bottom, oral.. err the other, kerchief in the left, right back jeans pocket, red, blue... but no longer has any significance other than to show you have some bit of flare. If he wants to be Mr. Macho and still show support for you and Tim, he might do both... but you'd better kick in for the cost of the extra stud. I opted out as one of my cats, Squeakie, who is nearing 10 years old, still thinks it is cute to suck on daddy's ear lobes from time to time.
  2. ... er, moved to the city, did you James? :p
  3. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. It is just a few months short of 10 years since I lost my mom but it is a day I'll never forget. Hang in there...
  4. Despite the problems... Happy Birthday, James.. almost slipped by! Celebrating a birthday - even if you are not up to snuff - is better than the alternative! Take care of yourself, buddy.

    Do You Know Me

Excellent, DJ... Thanks for contributing it. :-)
  6. Same here. A love story told from a "different" perspective... so different and so moving.
  7. Yeah... this is a fun story. Nice going Rick. TR has just passed me another short story by Rick I think you'll like also... Watch out for 'Outed' coming soon to an AwesomeDude page near you! :)
  8. What a cheerful thread! :) Glad you are OK... seriously AJ. Sometimes we must all be reminded of our own mortality... I am every time I get behind the wheel and contend with the "death-wish drivers" on the road. You might consider updating the car a bit... it seems your wheels are a bit long in the tooth.... and to Naiilo... Add to that a bit of vodka... and you have "Death by Screwdriver."
  9. Welcome back, Blue! :)
  10. Hi Gang - Well, we've had another controversial topic and at the original poster's request, I have locked the thread. Compared to past controversies... it didn't get really nasty because - unlike some things that have happened here - no real malice was involved, just a difference of opinions. I am going to have to ask you all -once again- to keep your responses on topic and not let emotions carry you away. As a journalist, you know how I abhor censorship - so I don't want to just delete the replies using offensive language and hyperbole. I also don't want to discourage folks who make reasoned and well thought out responses by deleting the thread entirely. That would send the wrong message... that their responses and the time they put into them was wasted. But you have to remember the purpose of the AD Forums... to facilitate the exchange among folks who love to read and write. Unfortunately, I have not heard anything from Blue, our moderator for this forum for some time... so I have had to jump in myself. Which means taking time from other duties... most urgent of which is updating the Best-Of-Nifty page. Please, this is the only non-literary forum at AwesomeDude Forums... if you want to keep it, let's keep it civil! Thanks

It depends on how you view the editing process, TR. If you think that having the story edited and finally proofed by someone else is just to make it "prettier" for the reader, then it probably won't help. But if the author and editor work as a team, each with the proper respect for what the other does, it can be a great help. While many authors have a good grounding in English grammar and usage, others do not. Some authors may have terrific ideas which, if presented well will make for a good story. Other authors blessed with a good grounding in the written language may, alas, be totally uninspired when it comes to weaving a tale. A pairing of the "right" editor and author can contribute to enhancing the skills of both. Each editor/author relationship is -and must be- different. Some teams soar. Others flop. Some lead to longtime friendships, others to animosity. I happen to know that there examples of most of these right here on AwesomeDude. Except for the flops... they seldom make it to our pages as we don't have an "Examples of what NOT to do Stories section. With apologies to The Bard, The Story's The Thing.

Sounds like these two guys need to get together for a little mutual... er proofing? :p
  13. Hear ye... hear ye... Let it be known that aj has hereby been appointed as moderator of Editor's Desk. He is entitled to all the glory and monetary remuneration that comes with the job. :p Welcome, aj

  16. I totally agree, Graeme. Just finished reading it last night and it was delightful! I hope we hear more from Rick in the future! :D
  17. I am sorry... I wasn't understanding the problem... when we made changes in our default email addresses... the forums email address... from which notifications are sent... was deleted as it was getting lots of flack in German. It has been restored with a new default address but should work. Thanks Blue TPTB or TBPD
