  1. Hey, that's radical! My comment above, number 10 in this thread, came out black on dark grey like all the previous third party comments here. But I proof read it after posting it and decided to make a minor change, so I clicked 'edit' at the bottom of the post and then 'quick edit' which gave me an editing cursor. And after making my change and clicking the 'complete Edit' button, my comment showed up with white text! However I clicked my browser's 'refresh' button and then it showed up with black text again. Boo.

  2. This problem may be related to a problem I've experienced in the forums. When you reply to a thread by quoting a previous post, the text entry box appears complete with the text of the post you're quoting enclosed in 'quote' labels. The box has a white background and the text normally appears black. However if I quote one of of Cole's posts, the text of his post is invisible until I highlight it. It's always been like this, and I think it's because he colours his posts a sort of creamy yellow colour. I'm the opposite of an expert (an inpert?) but if HTML works anything like a lot of offline software, you can designate text to be a particular colour, or you can leave it defaulted to 'automatic', which seems to equate to white text if the background is dark and black text if the background is light. So most forum posts, with 'automatic' text colour, show white against the AD dark background, but then when you quote them and are working in the text entry box they show black against the white box background. No problem. Cole's on the other hand disappear because his text is not 'automatic', it's been specified to be a nearly white colour. And it's invisible against a white background. Now I wonder if that's close to what's happening in the blog area? Maybe our blog skin is defining the text of comments to be black, rather than 'automatic'? That would, I think, explain the phenomenon we're experiencing.

  3. I want to say a heartfelt Thank You, Rick. Your post is brave, yes indeed it is. It is also IMPORTANT and for that you deserve thanks from all of us. I hope the CD4 count improves and the viral load continues insignificant. I know others on the three-drug cocktail and it seems to be very effective. One guy I know is still healthy 15 years after diagnosis.May your beard grow ever longer, or, as the Scots would say, Lang may your lum reek!Bruin x

  4. Magpies of the world unite!I have every sympathy, Camy. The Sony is very bright, very shiny. Just begging to be coveted. On the other hand you have to sympathise with Waterstone's too. They don't have experience selling things that go wrong. It must be freaking them out.Once you've discounted the Sony e-reader, Waterstones do sell a lot of alternatives that shouldn't give any trouble. I recently bought one and I have to say its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages:Advantages:It can be used in almost all lighting situations except complete darkness, and there's a low cost accessory available to overcome that limitation, very useful for those with nothing better to do under the bedclothes.Very low cost, to suit Camys with long pockets and short arms - and delicate credit cards.Very green: it uses no power at all (even page turning is done using miniscule amounts of energy derived from the digestion of vegetable matter or protein - a wide variety of energy sources is available). Also it is fully recyclable and biodegradable, made entirely of paper!Water resistant - it will withstand even full immersion in water, but it is advisable to let it dry before attempting use since damage can occur if used when very wet. Multi-purpose: when not in use for reading, can be used to prop open a door, prevent a table from wobbling on an uneven floor, etc. When no longer needed it will even help with the lighting of a fire.Disadvantages:Contains only one book. Storage capacity is the one major drawback relative to the Sony that I can see. The low cost of purchase however makes it practical to buy several. I have shelves full of them now!I'm hooked - can't think how I ever got along without them. Isn't technology marvellous - I often wonder what my grandfather would think about it all if he were alive now!Bruin :hehe:

  5. You spoke too soon, din'tyer? The weather's gone back to being vile."What was that?""What was what?""That warm bright thing, just then.""That was the summer.""Damn, I missed it. Do I get another?""Sorry, mate, that's yer lot.""Oh. Are there any more chocolates?"Perhaps, dear Camy, you should have asked a brick. They're all psychic, you know!A Frisson? Is that like a Soup?on but cooked differently?

  6. It's not just Canon camcorders, it's not just Final Cut, audio sync seems to be a problem generally - and I haven't got it cracked. I used to have a PC with a digital TV tuner card which could schedule and record TV programmes. Very successful so long as I then watched the programmes on the PC. But if I burned them to DVD the audio sync always went adrift. Sometimes by several seconds. Hilarious. Never got to the bottom of it, although there are lots of techie websites devoted to advice on the subject. Use a very fast PC seems to be the best advice....You've put it in writing now, so you've got to do it. NaNoWriMo in November here we come! Go get last year's finished, I'll work on finishing mine and we'll both be raring to go by Nov 1st.Now go give M a big hug and tell him it's from your webmates.Bruin :icon5:

  7. Swimming in the sea is just so much better than a swimming pool. Unfortunately my bit of sea is brown and muddy, and everyone who swims in it comes out with a sore throat. There's an industrial outflow up the coast from here. I have a rule - I only swim if I can see my feet through the water. Here you can't see your midriff, let alone your feet. So go on, gloat about your lovely blue clean water. See if I care...And what's this about bumping into a friend on the beach and being offered tea? How cool is that?! His beach hut has mains power? Or was it out of a flask? I hate tea from a flask...Bruin :icon12:

  8. .... Or stop whining and just get on with it.
Nice weather is good. Less stress is good. If the stress you were under inspired you to write, and now you lack that inspiration, it's a small price to pay for the joys of stress-free living. And I PROMISE YOU your muse will return. Just taking a break. Chill out and let it take its time.I'm speaking, here, out of my vast experience... NOT.Good to hear you're tigger-like, hope the gig goes well.HugsBruin
  9. Hey, Rad, I'm sorry to hear life hasn't been going well for you lately. It sounds like you've been around people who've been behaving like mushroom growers (keeping you in the dark, covering you with shit). Maybe it would help to remember it's not the circumstances of life that make people miserable, it's what goes on in their heads. People can be happy although in desperate poverty ? it's all a matter of liking yourself, having self-respect. And you, my friend, have plenty of reason for self-respect. You're one of the good guys ? and very talented. You have the ability to move people with your writing and that's a gift that should be used and developed. Because of the way the web works you'll probably never know just how much good you've done, how many lives you've made easier or happier because someone has read something you've written and it's helped them deal with who they are. We're separated from our readership by miles of telephone cable. But you will know that if one reader sent you an e-mail to say thanks for writing, likely several hundred others read your work but didn't, for whatever reason, feel able to write and tell you so. You're a force for good in this world, so don't let the bastards get you down! Hang on in there, mate! Bruin :wav:

  10. Seeping out of your body? What does that look like, then? Are you carrying around a rag to mop it all up as it seeps?(Back on message) Three cheers you've completed the move. The cats will settle in soon, you're re-settled (making you sound like refugees from a famine) and back online. Big relief for those of us who've been pining for you! Bruin delighted to have you back
