  1. To me it sounds like you guys are FRIENDS, and not just guys going to the same school. If there really aren't any clique barriers or tendencies, it is because you all don't want there to be. I guess my only 'concern' is that you may be living in a situation that is not the norm, and that in other locations there is not such broad acceptance and camaraderie. I don't think lack of cliques in a school story would be distracting at all.

  2. I know my comment will be pointless, but it's a fun little aside. Locally, a church group decided to hold a 'garage sale' to raise money. They had people bring lots of items for sale, and then had the sale. The next day, a group renting their hall complained about the high temperature. Someone was called to investigate the air conditioning system, to find that during the garage sale they had sold off a major, and expensive, component of their A/C system, probably for about 50 cents. They have now mounted a publicity campaign to see if they can get the part back, in exchange for the 50 cents paid for it. Aren't volunteers just soooo helpful?

  3. What bugs me more, okay, maybe not, but anyway...Are those things where they say, "There is an update available, do you wish to upload and install?" You think, "sure", and click "yes". Off it goes, uploads, downloads, whatever, and installs, and THEN it tells you it is a Beta copy. By this time, the working copy is gone.

  4. It sounds like things are improving for you, and that's a good thing. Don't worry about the being nervous, much. It isn't really the first year that you will have that. It is only till you've experienced each little thing, and then you're no longer nervous about that little thing. Sure, there may be some other thing, but it just gets better and easier every day.

  5. I like Des' plan. It is, frankly, brilliant. Strangely enough though, the part that upset me most in your tale of angst is the dumb-ass lady with her befouled meat problem. My temptation would be to not charge her, but also to remove all signs of the food that was supposedly contaminated. If she had eaten it already, and was now complaining, well, she ate it. Furthermore, I'd not let her remain outside. God knows, a fly could land on it too. OMG, I just realized, AIR POLLUTION - a sure way to destroy an outside meal. Customers like that should just go jump in the nearest swollen drainage ditch and save the world a lot of trouble.

  6. Why not in the flash section of AD, you ask? Well, two reasons, neither of which is 100% logical. The stories are not in any way, shape, or form sexual or sexual orientation related, and therefore easily meets the CW requirement of nothing explicit, because in these cases there aren't just not explicit, but aren't even implicit. The other reason is that I'd like to encourage more people to visit CW and see some of the nice content thay have available there, and posting it in both CW and AD rather defeats that, don't you think? Anyway, that was my reasoning, as faulty as it might be.

  7. Oh, I meant to mention, I always get the cell phones that have the least in them, and are the cheapest. Each bit of fancy shit just makes it work less and eat up power more. I've only ever had 2 both Nokia, and I've been able to drop kick them across the room, drop then off cliffs, and have tools fall on them in the workshop, without them failing. Forget the clamshell phones; each time you open it you are at risk of doing damage. Every moving part wears.

  8. I don't mean to laugh at someone else's misery, but hardee har har. My buddy bought a printer/scanner combo and it has never worked right. He has a Mac, and the printer very clearly said that it is compatible with a Mac. Sadly, they lied. It will print one page, then stop halfway through the second page. He has to physically pull the paper out of the machine. Hewlett Packard denies it is their issue. So does Apple. As if that isn't bad enough, my buddy has a cell phone and no landline at all, and the phone numbers provided are 800 numbers, supposedly toll free, which is all very nice, but those numbers are NOT AIRTIME FREE when you use a cell phone. Going through those endless cycles of pushing buttons is eating up your money at an alarming rate. HOLD, OMG; talk about just throwing money down the drain. My own printer purchasing concept has changed. I buy the cheapest one I can find, and then pay $30 for a 3 year in store replacement warrantee. You walk into the store with the broken one, and walk out with a new one. Last time I even got an upgrade, AND they replaced my 4 laser ink cartridges with new ones, since the new machine wouldn't take the old ones and I told them I had just put in new cartridges. (Truth) The new printers come with a half 'in store' cartridge, so don't let them screw you over with a story about it being a new set of cartridges in there, get new packaged ones.

  9. Rad, let me tell you about Vic. Vic is a driver for a small company in Manila. He worked for a pittance and for 18 plus hours per day. He supported his wife and 5 kids, but couldn't see them for weeks at a time, as he was away, driving tourists around. The money was barely enough for his kids to have some rice every second day. Vic is now a victim of both global warming, and the world economic downturn from oil prices. There are no tourists, as wave after wave of monsoons rains and typhoons hit. He has somehow managed to start taking college courses, and he still works for that same company, but now he does it for no wages at all. He works only 10 to 12 hours, then goes to school, and he does this work only in the hopes that this company doesn't go completely bankrupt so that if things pick up, he'll be able to get some money again. You are wondering how he is managing to feed his family, and that is a valid question, but more to my point here, is that he is facing almost insurmountable challenges, yet in his emails, he is 'up' and happy, despite this. (The school gives him free internet usage) Why is this? How can he still be so nice, happy, and lacking in despair? I think it is because he recognizes that he is loved, and worthy of love. He has something that you are not seeing in yourself. You are not seeing your worthiness to be loved, nor the love and concern others have for you. If anything, the thing you need to do most is talk to us. Talk to others you know. Email, IM, and post. If you let it all go, and simply slide away, we won't know, we won't be able to help you see that we already like you, and you will be succumbing to something that need not be. You are NOT alone. It may seem that way, but coming to the world to be seen, and heard, will also show that you are not alone.Vic emails to us at least once a day. It can be as little as "I don't know what to do. My bed is completely covered in filth from the flooding from the last storm." He has shared that angst, and while it may not seem to help in any practical way, it does. He gets sympathy, and indeed, even useful suggestions about how he might tackle this problem. The big boost though, is that he can see he is appreciated for being the human being he is. Huge hugs from Bart, and even a kiss, if you don't mind indulging a fat old man.

  10. Hey, I have 'stuff' too. In fact, I have photo containers (those plastic things) with a sample of sand from each set of dunes I've ever been too. I have a sample pebble from each beach I've visited. Only lately did I get rid of the sample grass strand from each meadow. My worst one was the sample box of dung, yes, DUNG, that I collected from the wilds of America. The one that finally caused me to remove those was the bison dung, which seemed to have been harbouring some rather dormant and easily roused insect life. Strange things kept crawling around, ever more bizarre, and I finally tracked down the culprit(s). I must say I was probably even more revolted than you are right now, reading this. :wav:

  11. Camy, it may all be a bad computer crash. When I had my first hard drive crash, I lost 768 contacts, instantly, and only knew a few addresses. Slowly, I managed to build my data again, but I've probably lost at least 300 which I've never been able to recover. They probably all thought I'd decided to ignore them. Maybe that isn't the problem though. Either way, it hurts. Hugs to you.
